This thread seems by and large to have been good natured. What in particular offended you? Anyway, if you have spent your life being disappointed at human nature, clearly your idea of human nature is faulty. Just how much evidence do you need before you change your expectation to a more realistic one? And while you are being all pompous and self righteous, can I mention that in your thread about your Mikuni I made 3 posts all of which were as helpful as I could be. None of those three posts received so much as an acknowledgement from you, so in my view you are a bit rude and quite self-obsessed. Not the paragon of virtue and good behaviour you are trying to present. Whoa!someone is very defensive. Firstly I thought this was a forum where people could ask questions and members could choose to answer, I did not ask you directly therefore I do not believe I have to thank every reply. However if it adds to your stars and gives you affirmation then 'Thank you thricely' As to my being pompous and self righteous that is your view and not one I agree with or set out to promote. Perhaps I am not used to the way forums work, especially those which are unmonitored, and whilst I accept things can go off subject, I find it unnecessary and rude for people to be offensive and foul mouthed. If that makes me virtuous and pompous then forgive me for having some standards and respect. You do not know me so have no right to proclaim my view of human nature no more than if I were to say that you are egregious and bigoted and seem to have a massive MC Cain's on your shoulder but there again I could be wrong. Surely it's just simple good manners to thank someone if they have tried to help you? I must be old fashioned. I generally simply add a 'like' to a post if somebody has helped me. They get notified that one has done so, you don't actually have to say 'thankyou'.

I pretty much guess I ain't gonna win any arguments on here. My views about manners and language were not aimed at anyone specifically however when I am personally accused of something in public I believe I have the right to answer specifically. I am going to call it a day on this particular thread and I will endeavour, should I ask for any further advice, to make sure I thank any responders immediately. To those who took part in the main part of the thread thanks for participating and sharing your views.

Given the response to my 'Funeral' post I thought it only natural to continue the theme so I've added another poll "Do you believe in life after death'? ...there is a possibility that events of the Universe are stored somehow, someway, and that 'souls' can continue to live on. Gosh I hope not. Because that would mean someone would have to listen to this drivel for eternity...

This forum is about fun, piss-taking and generally sharing a bit of banter, mixed in with the occasional serious thread where folk need help or advice in their general life or in their boating activities. if you are looking for a more straight-laced forum for folk who enjoy boating there are other options. Perhaps the truly dreadful behaviour exhibited here by more than a few members on this and other threads would not be permitted on what we call 'the other channel'. ........ may suit you better.

Yes, I think you’re right about this not being the right place to try to win an argument. It’s a good place to have arguments tested though as there is no threat of a moderator banning you just because they don’t agr

As for language most people are relatively polite on here despite rudeness being allowed but there are times when you have to call a twat a twat.
It's just the way it is.

Perhaps I am not used to the way forums work, especially those which are unmonitored, Unmonitored just means there isn't some Social Justice Warrior 'Soy Boy' or some dusty old hag looking over your shoulder at everything you write, and there is no way forums work, you just do your own thing. Just stick around for a while and see how you get on here - there is plenty of potential for all kinds of things here. If you prefer another boating forum, there are others, including Canalworld/CWDF for inland waterways. There's nothing wrong with you starting your very own thread, asking unwanted members to stay off it - the jubjub Thread - access denied to magnetman & naughtyfox & telemachus; it could work.

Actually, with pro boards you can set up your own forum in about 5 minutes. The Jubjub forum sounds great...and it would be easy to moderate one’s self. Wiki Description The Jubjub bird is a dangerous creature mentioned in Lewis Carroll's nonsense poems "Jabberwocky" and "The Hunting of the Snark". In "Jabberwocky", the only detail given about the bird is that the protagonist should "beware" it. In The Hunting of the Snark, however, the creature is described in much greater depth.

You do not know me so have no right to proclaim my view of human nature no more than if I were to say that you are egregious and bigoted and seem to have a massive MC Cain's on your shoulder but there again I could be wrong. If you ask a technical question on here and people take the time to think about it and answer you sensibly, in my opinion it is only common decency to acknowledge the reply. Imagine someone stopped you in the street and said “could you tell me the best way to the library”. You think for a moment and say “well if you walk down there, turn left, walk along for 100yds, turn right and the library is a couple of hundred yards on the left”. At which point they simply turn their back on you and walk off in the indicated direction, what would you think of them? Probably something along the lines of “rude, entitled bastard”. So my point was that on the one hand you come on here and tell us that we are behaving badly, whilst on the other hand displaying abnormally discourteous behaviour yourself. On here, that won’t go without being called out. I do not know you other than by how you behave on here, and so far it isn’t particularly good.

To be fair people new to the forum would not know you are Practically* Perfect behaviourally and in other ways and a role model everyone should look up to.
*The "practically" would not be needed if you had resisted owning a Hudson narrow boat.

And if you start a serious technical thread you might be lucky that they all stay away, except nick because he's cleverer than us.
