I put a phone hotspot up last time I was on a crowded TGV train in france. It was called "Putain! Mais Putain!" Did get a funny look from a fellow passenger and a little titter from another one. It's quite amusing. When the kids use the tablet I tether them onto my phone (so I can deny their connection at will) with it called "bollocks" that always gives them a laugh. They are quite little 7 and 9 but know that it's ok to call someone a cunt if they actually are a cunt but that it is frowned upon and quite rude. This could seem a bit bad but it's education at the end of the day. Real life. I would not call a WiFi network "cunt" as it does offend some people. That word. I worked in industry all my working life. 30 plus years but I can’t stand that word. It’s the only word that I find offensive. Odd isn’t it. I cannot stand it either...

Not odd really. It is a bit of a nasty one but it is part of reality.
I think the reason it is offensive is because of the pure linguistic effectiveness. Nothing to do with the dictionary definition it is just a very effective word from a language point of view.
Short and to the point. Opening with a hard consonant "C" followed by a durable vowel (u is the most durable vowel) then a bit of follow through by using the N and backed up with the hardest of all consonants the T.
I reckon it would be quite a harsh word even without the recognised meaning.
It's just effective delivery of the spoken word.
ETA I suppose a way to test it would be to find another European with a similar language background like Dutch and deliver the word to them forcefully and see if they find it offensive.
Then test it by also saying "you are a CUT".
I reckon they would know the difference even if they had no understanding of the English language.
