I'm sick of the news, politics, politicians, revolutions, wars, and attendant business. I am confident the sun will rise and set whether I pay attention or not. The money men will continue to make obscene amounts of wealth, and politicians will continue to lie whether or not I'm listening. I invite you all to post on here about anything you wish, no matter how trivial, mundane or dull ... even foxy can post photos of his meals ... but beg you to avoid all reference to politics in any form There is no point me worrying about what I cannot change, and hopefully this thread can be a diversionary nonsense away from the cares of the day. Just received some exchange shims for my z1(motorbike). Off into garage now to fit to the beautiful Japanese engine. Needed two changing, both clearances had closed, one by .003”, the other by .004”. I love the moment when I get to fire her back up.

Me too. (Sick of etc). Yesterday we jumped into the car and drove down to the boat, Today we have set off for a few days to Gt Haywood and back. A very autumnal day but quite nice. Surprisingly busy though, I thought the cut would be deserted but we passed 5 opposite direction boats between Fazeley and Hopwas. Fortunately we hadn’t yet encountered Steve Haywood! There seems to be a lot of water/flooding about. I guess it’s been raining a lot down here - it’s been quite a nice week and weekend in Aberdeen.

I had a crap in a proper house toilet inside a boat for the first time in my life this morning.
Oh the joy to hear a real flush from a high up cistern. Reminds me of my childhood.
Very satisfying.
The holding tank is large so about 2 weeks between pumpouts I reckon that's not too terrible. It's about £15-£20 for a pumpout so a pound a day to have a proper bog. Worth it I reckon.

Not really no. dogless asked members to post about anything random so I chose toilets. Perhaps some devilment there I admit. I sometimes introduce toileting on boats to discussions as a humourous reference because I find it amusing how the type of toilet is so important to some people. I don't care what type of toilet (within reason) I use personally quite happy with shit suitcases, pumpout, burning, freezing, composting, bagging or whatever. I dislike the old Sealand dump through type intensely. Obviously it has been established that household type flushing toilets are technically the best thing in terms of sanitation and odour reduction due to the U bend situation and high water use. The cost of pumping out is a factor. however what price comfort? I still have not finished the prototype fast-freeze compressed air shitgun but as I now have a big air horn needing an air supply I might get on with it. Watch this space.

Seems we have gone from one shit topic to another! Anyway, bikes back together and running. Sounds beautiful as ever. I love the sound of old inline fours 😀

Yes. Two seperate faults. The fridge has an auto setting that automatically switches between 12v when towing, 240v mains then gas (if for any reason the mains fails) in that order. It wouldn't go onto auto so it had to be switched between sources manually. They replaced the PCB, fixed under warranty. The regulator was showing output from the panel but then showing no output to the battery. Fixed under warranty. All is well in the world, going to the Dales for a week on Saturday.

If we are talking of repairing things, I had a busy day in the hangar on Sunday. I had fitted new radios to all our club aircraft over the past year or so (the standard for radios changed from 25KHz spacing to 8.33KHz, everyone had to buy new radios). But on one glider it has been playing up. Seems to work fine on the ground, but in the air just a horrible screeching on transmit. It’s always hard to fix something that isn’t actually malfunctioning at the time. Anyway after a long time i tracked it down to a bad solder joint in the multi-pin connector on the back of the radio. Microphone ground wire. Piss poor work by me! Resoldered, and as far as I can tell all is now good.
I also changed the battery connectors to XT90 and installed a LiFePO4 battery. We have decided to use XT60 connectors for lead acid gel cells, and XT 90 for the Lipos, so that folk can’t connect a battery to the wrong type of charger.
It goes without saying that the 7.5AH LiFePO4 batteries are so much better than the 7AH lead acid gel cells of the same physical size. Including the weight. Gel cell weighs 2.2 kg, LiFePO4 weighs 1kg. And of course you get to use all the capacity in the Lipo battery, whereas gel cell voltage drops below 12v at 50% SoC under a bit of load.
And of course massively more cycles for the Lipo. Only downside is £100 for the Lipo, £25 for the gel cell.

I've arranged for a girl I met to spend a couple of days on the boat. It's a bit of a nightmare in some ways, all the water gets used in showers, an elsan that should last 3 weeks lasts 3 days. Pretty decent 'conversion rate' from these visits though. No pain no gain and all that.

I look forward to seeing this completed, although i think the power consumption to fast freeze might be a limiting factor. As i wouldnt want to start a generator every time i want to use the loo.
