. . . one over zealous enforcment officer told me on the phone she was refusing to liscence my boat and quote "was going to have my boat." from Deborah Figuerido:
"I think (subject to resources) that we start enforcement action against this boat . . . If I had the resources now I would section 8 it and snatch it'. So she's a snitcher AND snatcher! Natch!

When will you grasp that not displaying a licence is meaningless. Rog It's not 'meaningless'. It shows that the boat is licenced, and it is a legal requirement to display the licence on both sides of a boat. Boaters who do not display their licences are up to something shifty. Or just being silly.

Please don't alter my posts. Rog Please don't state that not displaying a licence is legal. It's not but nobody but a busybody gives a flying fuck. Just use the licence checker if it turns you on. Maybe in the privacy of the toilet.

In the good ol' days they used to even let you have a couple of plastic "licence holders" to stick in your window. Check my number anytime - like the supervisor at The Bratch and the very lovely old vollie lady they stationed at Woodend Lock .... met x

It's every boater's business to see who is riding the canals for free and thus taking the piss. If you are an honest boater and have paid for a licence, there's no reason for not displaying it. One does wonder why you get so het up about this, Jim.

In my case it is definitely sillyness ETA I visited the docklands office in person to get a properly printed out Gold license for the yot last year. Obviously the yot is now surplus to requirements but the principle remains. If the navigation authority can not be arsed to send out durable stainless steel laser printed self adhesive license discs to be displayed on all three sides of the vessel then they are demonstrably unfit for purpose. Rant over

If you'd READ what I wrote (rather than just altering it) I said it was meaningless and didn't mention law at all.
As long as you've paid your licence money, it's no one's business but yours and C&RT's.
As long as the number is displayed C&RT , and indeed you, can check on line if any boat is licensed or not.
For someone so introverted they won't take a pee in a public loo, you seem to like involving yourself in others business.

As much as I see faults with CRT (lack of dredging, asset stripping the waterways, etc.), I do think they should get tough with the piss-taking parasites.
Stabby has mentioned earlier that the cost of a licence is quite reasonable when you look at what you get for it, especially from the angle that if you got the same amount of water from your kitchen tap as you do from filling and emptying locks, and paid for it with domestic water rates, it would cost a lot more that the licence! And that's just the water.
The canals and other waterways are, I think, a precious asset to England (Wales and Scotland really don't have the same size network), but money does need to be pumped in to maintain them and keep them open.
Arguments for not displaying your licence (2 small square bits of paper) are childish.
