The NHS is over stretched and overloaded and heading for the inevitable crash... Closures of old folks places has seen more and more bed blockers with an ageing infirm population left with no place else too go. A and E with ridiculous waiting times is still populated with folk who have minor complaints..again with no place else to be seen..GP surgeries in the main over burdened can only offer appointments in a week/2 weeks etc and people don't wanna wait. I could write an essay..but won't ..the whole system needs complete re structuring but the billions that would cost is not in the kitty and no party skilled enough to tackle this. Its an emotive weapon that is used time and again in the fight for votes.... whatever the truth of the 4 year old boy case, it won't be allowed to prevent a good story line emerging..fantasy and heart rendering opportunities win every time. A younger me would welcome the chance to be in on a working party identifying what ails our NHS....but I suspect they wouldn't want folk who are only interested in what needs to be done. I did once write during a crises to the government of the time outlining issues as seen on the ground level..my letter not even acknowledged.

Since being up here in the North I have had to use ..... a Walk in Centre and Minor Injuries unit both were very good and very quick I think it was about 45 minute wait at the walk in centre before seeing a doctor .... (I have waited longer at my own doctors when I have an appointment) and in the minor injuries unit I was seen and treated within 20 minutes
Very small view point but is part of it because people prefer to go to A&E instead of these types of unit ?

A fair example of what's happening might be where I was brought up. There were 2 g.p. surgeries in the area in 1971, when we moved there. Almost 50 years on there are still 2 surgeries. The population in the area has increased by around 30%. That's it.
The number of g.p.'s should increase in line with any population increases. Otherwise it's obvious that the service will deteriorate, leading to longer waiting times.
All these new g.p.'s would cost money. Nobody wants to pay more tax, even 1970's reincarnated Labour claim that only the rich will pay more. So, the government is stuck with a smaller pot of cash than it would like. All would not be lost, but successive governments keep creating new costly welfare schemes. We had the hugely expensive scheme for the government to subsidise the wages of the lower paid, quickly followed by a scheme to make generous payments to those who have children. Right now the main parties are trying to outbid each other as to how many billions they can spend on providing childcare for parents, including relatively wealthy ones, who choose to go to work.
The NHS could be properly funded if it was the main priority, a higher one than the other government costs I've mentioned but despite all the bluster, it's not. So while any poliical party that proposes higher taxes is doomed to failure at the ballot we can say that the NHS is similarly doomed to failure.

The NHS is a black hole for finance ... it can never be financed enough, the demand will always exceed supply. However we have also created a society who appear to enjoy ill health. Over many recent visits to A&E with Jane's Mum (who was slowly dying) we witnessed a constant procession of people filling the waiting rooms, at all hours of the day and night with coughs and sneezes, minor twists, sprains and cuts, or drink/drug related issues, all of which were self evidently capable of home treatment. The NHS is superb for the big stuff, the important stuff, the life changing stuff. Any organisation of its size and complexity is bound to experience problems that have to be resolved, but this shouldn't over shadow the overall picture in my view. The NHS is constantly used as a political 'football' by ALL parties as it is a central pillar of our society, and it will always be so. The NHS has always been a source of national pride, along with our democtratic political system and 'Mother of all parliaments'. At least we can remain proud of the NHS Rog

Right now the main parties are trying to outbid each other as to how many billions they can spend on providing childcare for parents " 'All he's done is get my daughter pregnant SEVEN times!' Mother-in-law slams benefits dad who set up GoFundMe page to support family as a 'feckless liar' who'll fritter away the £3,800 already raised" "Jenny's mother, says Mr Rodgers is bone idle and has never done a day's work in his life. Speaking to MailOnline Ms Grattan said: 'Ryan is a feckless liar who is trying to con the public into giving him money which he will just pour down his throat. 'No one should give him any money as he has a drink problem and that's where it will all go. He will spend it all on booze." " 'He has not done an honest day's work since he left school,' she said. 'He leaves the house at 10am in the morning and comes back late at night off his head on drink. He has a big drink problem and he also spends most of their benefit money on weed." www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7776481/Mum-law-slams-GoFundMe-benefits-dad-Ryan-Rodgers-getting-daughter-pregnant-7-times-7-years.html

the last time I attended A&E it was with my 2 year old grandson who was screaming in pain and bleeding from a crushed thumb at 8a.m. in our new 'super-hospital'.
the waiting room was empty, but the reception staff were far too busy to attend to me (coffee, mobile phones, etc.) until I loudly made my presence known.
directed to pediatric A&E (also deserted) - I passed a glass-walled office where 6 uniformed staff were doing the same (coffee and mobile phones).
eventually the screaming got the better of them and a nurse sent for a doctor. when good doctor eventually arrived he told me to take the boy to another hospital that could deal with the damaged nailbed.
it took 50 minutes in total to achieve nothing.
went to the city hospital where the boy was seen immediately and admitted for an urgent operation.
NHS suffers from inconsistent standards and often grossly bad management.

If you were a female and went to this slimy 'doctor' I bet he'd want to give your tits a squeeze and and undercarriage examination just to confirm there's nothing he can do about your knee: "Dr Manish Shah, 50, from Romford, has been found guilty at the Old Bailey of 25 sexual offences against six patients - bringing his total number of victims to 23" "He would give patients hugs and kisses, singling some out as 'special' and his 'star', saying he had a soft spot for them" " He told young women they were 'pretty and beautiful' and remarked how one was 'tanned down there around the bikini line'. " www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7776891/GP-50-guilty-25-sex-offences-against-six-female-patients.htmland your point is?

Where I worked it was horrendous at night, some shifts we didn't sit down, let alone have time for coffee/phone breaks...one Christmas was particularly bad, the wards either side had few patients but would not send staff to help 'It was Christmas I got told'..I remember going round in tears to ask for just one pair of hands to come and help me change a soiled bed.. I never ever refused to help but getting help was a different matter...

The last time I was in a hospital was a couple of years ago for an ultrasound scan at whitechapel hospital. Not really needed but I made the mistake of going to the quack about abdomenal muscle pain. Nobody about I got in quickly and was felt all over my stomach plus the gel and scan thing. By a bloke which was a bit of an anticlimax with me not being queer (giggle). Anyway all ok no problems with my anatomy and it seemed ok in terms of public elf provision .
Happily my girls currently aged 9y7m and 7y6m have never been in a hospital apart from the older one who had a home birth and was subjected to an idiot duty midwife sending her and the mum to kings college hospital.
The cynic in me says "oh yes we have some students who want to have a look at you".
Anyway it's best to keep away from healthcare. Let them get too involved and they will destroy your life.
Sorry for the negatives just personal experience.

Finnish hospitals aren't much better with Finnish gypsy kids running up and down the corridors and their mums and grannies sleeping in beds that they have found in the corridors. No staff around to tell them to behave properly. However, the Prime Minister is on €17,000/month + perks, so it's very nice for her.

Errr..... "NHS suffers from inconsistent standards and often grossly bad management." ohh - you mean the NHS made a mistake by employing him - quote: Shah, from Romford in east London, had blamed the NHS for its 'flawed' screening processright. not the doctor's fault then. blame the poor old NHS. fuxxy being melodramatic again.
