The pull start mechanism in my kipor ig2600 is knackered. I wondered if anyone knows where to get one?

I’ve got the part number kg171-12100. I can find them for sale in America or China but not the UK.

Can you hand wind pull cord round the spindle, maybe jury rig something? Is it the rewind spring gone?

Might it be worth considering starting it with a cordless drill?
A sort of makeshift electric start arrangement.
Either on the nut holding the recoil mechanism on or possibly using some sort of friction system.
Or bin it.
Never tried it myself but have always been quite attracted to the idea of a generator you start with a drill. Done properly it could be quite a nice convenient solution.

Both are very good ideas. Apart from with this particular model of generator, you have to take the whole case apart to get to the pull cord mechanism. So excluding rewraping it every time and starting it with a drill etc.

Thanks for that the kipor uk one is a good price as well, worth a call. The only other option is order it from China.

Apparently there are none in the country and the man from kiporuk has offered to rebuild mine. It’s a hassle though, take it to bits send it off and wait.

You’d manage that yourself - biggest job is pulling the covers off. before you start get 1m of 5mm (double check it’s 5mm with a vernier calliper) pull cord off eBay, strip out the recoil starter pull cord assembly, remove remaining snapped pull cord from the recoil starter, replace with new cord using a figure of 8 stop knot, wind on the new string then wind on the tension on the recoil starter. Once it’s nice and tightly wound (unlike some of our posters!) leave enough string to go through the handle, clamp the reel with a pair of mole grips; pass the pull cord through the handle - you then need to tie a figure of 8 stop knot to stop the handle pulling off - give it a few tugs to make sure it recoils nicely and doesn’t leave a limp bit of string, if it does, remove handle and wind on a few more turns on the recoil starter - repeat above steps till you are happy, refit to Engine, refit covers, pour a beer or two and celebrate a job well done 👍🍻 its easier to replace the string before it’s snaps - as all you do is pull it full length, clamp it off, then remove old frayed cord, pull through new cord and away you go - no help when the bastard has already snapped though!

I tried to persuade him to send me the bits, but he got a bit annoyed and was claiming it’s difficult and he would have to do it. I sure is manage as I’ve done them before. It would be so much easier if he would send me the bits. But as the only alternative is order a replacement from China. I don’t really like being bullied into doing something. So I might wait see if one comes I on fleebay. Ps it’s not the pull cord that’s snapped it’s the plastic casting of the mechanism that’s broken. If it was just the Pull cord it wouldn’t be an issue.

Ah right - got you, often the little plastic ears that engages with the end of the crank fail. Shame the bloke at Kipor is being a dickhead. For all the faults the little Clarke Genny's have, a shit parts backup isn't one of them, not that that helps you!
