I have an 8 speed shimano hub on my folding bike, I would think a crank motor would be better for all the reasns you have outlined Jim. But as Steve says are we sure the motors from China will have a long life? I think any serious issues would turn up on the ebike fora, there are two main legal cd kits the bafang bb01b and tongsheng, no major problems flagged up with either. Seems to be more risk to the kit "tampering" with the street legal settings, easy enough with a laptop and programming lead.

There other centre mounted motors out there. Iβve not heard of the bafangs being so bad though.

Ah dunno the plastic clips holding the shower glass have lasted several years...but getting replacements from China proving a coronageddonnono

Ebike kit arrived yesterday, took a couple of hours to fit, easy job. Went to the shops this morning with the dog trailer on the back. Great.

Well happy.

Looks pretty good for an old boy.
The fast "fuuuccckkinnn elll!!!" One is a good little film. Noticed he put Honda c90 tyres on or something like that. To deal with the power.

I have 2 E-bikes. An ageing Powabyke shopper which is heavy as hell, but switohable between Pedal assist and power only which the lazy mouse likes. All under the control of a twist grip throttle. The other one is E-go 36 Folder. Less happy with this one. Have to use bungees to keep it folded. It is a good bit lighter so I can wrestle it onto the bows of the boat so long as the bank level is not close to the level of the boat's waterline. The major problem is with it being a pedelec only it has a 3 step power selection. No twist grip so when manoeuvering slowly the Leccy comes in with a rush and throws one against the wall of the entrance alleyway of the flats or whatever you are close to.

Looks good so far Jim. What make / model cycle is that and is it a random choice?

I must say Iβve thought about one of these kits, but wondered what they are really like. Now our intrepid reporter Jim will let us know.

All I can say about it is that the frame design around the seat post looks very strong. I wonder if the old preference for cro-moly is preferable to the modern fetish with aluminium. Also, there may be some benefit in selecting a frame made for 700C wheels since this would allow for a smaller wider rim and consequently a bigger tyre, but this would in turn bring braking issues. However a small moped wheel with drum brakes may be a possibility. None of this matters much if 70mph is not a desired feature.

When I was into bicycles I always preferred steel frames. Aluminium just seemed wrong. You need a massive weld like that? Problem !
