I've had quite a few different bikes but due to being to relaxed about leaving them on the boat without being locked up they all got stolen.
Some people never learn.
I was slightly surprised that the Raleigh shopper bike got nicked though...
Other ones like the Dave marsh racer and my voodoo mountain bike yes that was quite predictable but nicking a Raleigh shopper bike off someone's boat seems a bit improbable.
Can't be arsed with bikes any more as I am getting more and more convinced that man's worst ever invention was the wheel.
It's really messed things up badly if you think about it !!
If we hadn't made the damn things the world would be a massively more pleasant place to live and humans would probably have a chance of surviving for a while.

Funny you should mention a trike...an electric one could be a riot. I'm sorry to hear about your knee, actually I injured my right knee a little while ago and I'm hoping cycling might be part of the rehab process. I did have a go and I'm quite wobbly, so I've been considering a turbo-trainer. Ever used one?

The cable is truly useless. It will deter only the most casual opportunist. The best defence is the desirability (or lack of it) of the the bike itself. Personally I would never leave the battery on it. I once met a disabled lady with three knackered mobility scooters - all with missing batteries. She had no way of storing them indoors. Such is the world. And she couldn't figure out it's cheaper to buy a new battery than a mobility scooter. Phil

I don't know the whole story, except she was housebound without the scooter and had nowhere to keep it other than outside the kitchen door, which before you say it was accessed by three steps. ETA the point was some cunt stole all the batteries. Go on, say something cynical.

Go on, say something cynical. Not cynical but sensible. Anybody with issues such as this should seek help, the kichen steps could easily be converted to a ramp courtesy of social services FOC. I asked for help with Chris's issues and got a home visit to the boat from a physio therapist who provided an aid to assist getting Chris in and out of bed plus a frame around the toilet to aid her using the toilet plus a shower seat which swiveled. But I guess that maybe we at 74 are a bit more pushy and maybe are not afraid to ask for help Phil

It's still rather sad that someone is thieving batteries from mobility scooters.
How low do they want to go?
I'm sure there would be ways to help them go very low preferably 6ft under but that's not allowed.

Bike is s a gt nomad hybrid, "inherited" from my son when he upgraded. Rolls along nicely on the 700c wheels. I've just fitted a pair of cheap sprung forks and a sprung seat post. More comfortable on cobbles, towpaths etc. Stayed on boat last night, bringing it down the Littleborough flight prior to heading west in a couple of weeks. Nipped home in car to drop off some stuff, came back on ebike. About to put bike on roof of boat, went to take battery off, I stuck my key in the charger socket. Doh! Small flash, summat gone. Posted pics etc on pedelecs forum, with luck there will be a fuse, otherwise a new bms, out with the soldering iron! I won't do that again. Apart from my stupidity, I'm happy with the motor. Others on the pedelec forum talk of several thousand miles with the bafang. A nylon internal gear can wear out, spares are available, including a steel replacement. Noreen has now had a change of meds, finally on the expensive one, she sleeps better, hardly any cataplexy. So we are looking at a folding 20" Wheel Tandem with a special seat back, arm rests and 4 point seat belt. I'll fit a bafang to that and use the same battery - when I've fixed it. Well it all seems good so far but a follow-up when its done some miles would be nice. The only thing about a leccy bike is leaving it outside the supermarket. Is the battery easily detachable? For this reason I think Stabby's moped wins. No-one will look twice at it but the world is full of cycle thieves. I would like a pic of the tandem when it is sorted, preferably an action-shot with both seats occupied...so long as your good lady won't feel she is in a...er...circus... I have just successfully removed the BB from an old frame. If only someone had told me one side was a reverse thread before I pissing started...grr. Oops! Bottom Brackets come in two flavours - ones that come apart easily and ones that are utter bastards! Sheldon Brown is a mine of useful info, there are one or two bits on there that raise an eyebrow but on the whole it's as good a reference as any. www.sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/bbcups.htmlSome useful cross referencing of various components as well.

I kept tearing the ligament, I still get the odd sprain now but after 4 years or so I've not properly done it for a year now. But still aches and swells. Stopped playing football because it happened every game. even after a 6 month lay up so still a little nervous about it but I'm happy to cycle with the kids. Just not in anger. I love my trike, I built it myself. I am tempted to build an electric one. Turbo trainers are OK. My mate uses the swift software, looks half decent.

That talks a lot about the sort of setups I remember. The BB I'm concerned with now is the cartridge / square taper arrangement. Anyway the replacement should show up today hopefully, then all I have to do is fit it...

Sounds worse than me, I landed heavily on my right foot which jarred the knee joint and quadratic muscle. It might not sound like anything but the pain was mindblowing. Four months later and the muscle is still out of shape (literally) compared to the other. So I have been considering the 'Zwift' thing which would at least minimise the possibility of RTAs. Totally build an electric trike. It could have a truck battery.

I remember doing a sealed BB with one of these tools Yes that's the sort of thing, I bought one from Halfords (more expensive than the net, surprise) but the main guy in the bike dept is a real cycle enthusiast who was very helpful and shared his knowledge.

Yes, it does on that particular link - but if you have a good ferkle around the site you will find info in virtually every aspect of cycle repair π
