Bit of a dilemma: I need to print out some documents tomorrow, sign them, get one of my signatures witnessed, then return the papers to my solicitor. I generally get stuff like this done at my parents', and next door is a willing signatory. Problem is, it's 40 miles each way, my mum is seriously ill in hospital, my dad is all over the place and I'm not supposed to go in the house because of covid restrictions.
Thinking of alternatives. I'm quite close to Nantwich. First idea was to use the library. Checked on the web, computers have to be arranged in advance and there's no mention of printing. So I'm a bit stuck really. Does anyone know anywhere in Nantwich where I might be able to get this done, or any other ideas?

Indian shop keeper maybe?
I know they do photocopies.
I'm sure if you complemented him on his hair and the quality of his wife's Samosas an arrangement could be made to print something.

When we needed a legal document printed out in a hurry when we were on the boat, we just went to PC world and bought a cheap printer, around £25 I think. They sell printers at a loss hoping to make profit from the ridiculous price of printer ink.

I am more than sure that the lovely people (Sue) at Venetian Chandlery would be willing to help if you're still moored above the lock (spoke to you there a week or so ago?) but if you ARE looking to broker your boat through them next door Zoe would probably oblige. The library will definitely help - try the personal touch instead of online and I find it works wonders ... Good luck with your move and really wish your mum well x

If there is some old unemployed/unemployable codger at a computer, ask them if they would mind you borrowing it for 5 minutes and get documents sent to the printer. Go to the marina and ask them to print them out for you? Walk even further (catch a taxi?) to Swanley Bridge Marina and ask them nicely to print them out? Ask at any office - eg. a solicitors? Offer to pay, of course. Any office ... Town Hall?

I've just re-visited the webpage of Nantwich library, printing is mentioned after all, so that's probably my best bet.

I've got a printer on Ellis if you get desperate - although we're now in Stretford tied up which is probably too far a drive.

What else can you do when a printer is cheaper than replacing the cartridge(s)? At one time HP were even cunningly making black with two colour cartridges instead of a black one, I think we know why! It doesn't even matter that printers come equipped with low capacity cartridges because they still gum up before they're used up. Who regularly prints things these days?

Jeff has a subscription to the electronic version the Press and Journal newspaper which he reads on his iPad. We like to do the crosswords (well, I do the quick crossword because I am a bit thick, and he does the cryptic because he is much cleverer). Kind of difficult to do a crossword on an electronic document, so he prints it out. It’s our little tea-time ritual. We use “fake ink” from eBay, which gives just as good results but costs a tiny fraction of the price of OEM ink.

Who regularly prints things these days? the other side of the coin is that these days there is less and less need for printed documents to be produced in business, so for many folk the cartridges will last longer.
yesterday I bought a Canon printer for £40 - a pair of cartridges will cost about £29, but I don't expect to need to change them for a year. I expect the main use will be regularly printing a check sheet to ensure the nozzles don't clog up. But as Ricco knows, when you need a printer you often need it pretty damn fast.
by the way, when I needed a postal address, copying and printing documents and receiving parcels I used to use MBE (Mail Boxes Etc).

I bought a monochrome laser printer for fifty squids in a sale. Much better than a BJ..

Laser is the way to go for cost per page.
Not as enjoyable to listen to as the old dot matrix though.
As a teenager I had a Citizen 120D and a Panasonic KXP1081. Both 9 pin dot matrix printers and both incredibly cool.
