As in the title there is a local boater having issues with charging I’m presuming he is just expecting too much power from the system this time of year. But the batteries are trojans so just checking the voltage needed.

As in the title there is a local boater having issues with charging I’m presuming he is just expecting too much power from the system this time of year. But the batteries are trojans so just checking the voltage needed. Are these wet Trojans? (They are the most popular, but they also do gel and AGM). If so, they do like quite a high finishing voltage up around 14.8v or more if the batteries are cold. Best thing with wet Trojans is to check the specific gravity when fully charged. Should be 1.277 (adjusted for temperature). If it is low, they need an equalisation charge at around 15.5v Also worth considering that these batteries do use water so first thing is to check the water level! Should be just below the bottom of the filling well. Then secondly, if the water level doesn’t need topping up every few months, they probably aren’t getting charged enough.

I suspect they have not been getting enough charge.

Has he, or anyone, measured his charging voltage?
