My father worked for the NBC brewery and he said that they used to have boats delivering to them up the west bridge branch. I also remember that they had a trip boat but can’t recall the name. It was really the play thing of one of the directors Leiut commander Bell who lived at Blisworth arm end. In a big flood before the war father used to tell the tale of paddling along St Leonard’s road in a big flood and fish floating out of the fish shop. The Nene catchment board carried out all the big works after the 1948 floods. I have thought for a long while that the management should be more locally controlled and therefore more responsible to the local population and not some remote central body like the EA I think the trip boat was Barleycorn.

I'm amused at Billing Aquadrome's arse covering attempts at every opportunity to stress "holiday" "go home to residential address" etc. I wonder how many are in reality in no position to do so because they live there unofficially and have nowhere to go. As I understand it every inmate has to sod off for a little while - it’s part of the agreement, usually it’s off to the Costa del grot for the grim bit between beginning of January and end of February; but because Christmas and Covid that looks less likely at the moment. loads of cockney rejects love it there - me? I can’t see the fascination; surrounded by a flooding river, a massive sewage farm, a decent sized industrial estate and the A45. Still, Wouldn’t pay for us to all like the same things! When I first started seriously looking at boats I drove past a few times and yes, it looked like the last place on earth I'd want to be and I didn't bother looking further into it I believe they have a busy clubhouse/cafe/bar, it seemed like a holiday destination for them what likes packaged holidays, i.e. a site designed to keep you within the fence spending all your money through their tills rather than providing things of use. Like a cruise ship or motorway services.

I posted some of this for the benefit of the CWDF blockheads and some of it for the TB blockhead.
Knee deep (1 1/2’) at Peterborough yacht club. all of the middle Nene has suffered extensive flooding from Thrapston to Orton. Thorpe Waterville bridge has a 2’ air draft compared to its usual 8’
Still, it’s only a piddling little stream rather than a mighty river..... 🤦🏼♂️🤬 All boats safe at PYC, Orton Sluice is wide open - levels have peaked but a fair amount of water to shift yet. All of the fields on higher ground of the Nene valley are absolutely saturated. Thoughts to all who have been flooded (including my Mother In Law - first time since Easter 1998)
Had to park up at Orton Mere and go in on foot as Goldie Lane impassible in anything other than a 4x4 with a snorkel.
A fierce old flow on the river, enough to make walking upstream a chore and at a risk. Could do with a respite for another couple of days at the very least.

I wonder how many locks are reversed on the Nene, do they do the same on the Gt Ouse? I also wonder how flood proof Lilford is, I certainly wouldn't want an on line mooring unless I was still local.

I wonder how many locks are reversed on the Nene, do they do the same on the Gt Ouse? I also wonder how flood proof Lilford is, I certainly wouldn't want an on line mooring unless I was still local. As you know we have been on SSA for some time now, From Titchmarsh to Orton off the top of my head these locks will have been reversed Titchmarsh Wadenhoe Lower Barnwell Ashton Cotterstock Warmington Yarwell Wansford I doubt they were altered on the 23rd - I could be wrong but put it this way, driving along the A605 near Fairline boats on the bypass you can only just see the very top of bank on the loop from Ashton to Oundle Road bridge (on the bit near the Tap and Kitchen) most locks will be inaccessible to adjust the gate at the moment anyway. im a bit twitchy having a mooring on the main river but so far so good, I had spent some time putting sliding rings and fixed lines with plenty of slack, fairly happy with what I saw today. Hills and Hollows (upstream of upper Barnwell) where all the liveaboards are on the main river just down from Lilfird marina will be having a tough time, shame they haven’t got Mike and Ross to sort them out 🤦🏼♂️

Hills an Hollows is definately not somewhere I would want to be at the moment. Even when I was at Willy Watt the boat used to be out on the trailer for the winter.

Gazza used to keep Outhouse Mouse at Willy Watts before he moved to MNCC and then the Mose came up to me on the Broads.

Gazza used to keep Outhouse Mouse at Willy Watts before he moved to MNCC and then the Mose came up to me on the Broads. Mouse mooring was downstream of the now tearoom waterwheel - enough off the main river to be manageable. PYC mooring gets everything from the entire catchment destined for Wisbech and the Levels! it helps Orton sluice and the Dog are currently fully functional - first time I’ve seen daylight under the sluice gates at Orton! Couple of feet off making a level either side of the lock!
