Covid is creating a difference of opinion between the elderly and the young.
The elderly are blaming the young more and more for being reckless and not following the rules.
The young are blaming the elderly more and more for the restrictions to their lives and the fear that they will have little to enjoy in the future.
We've all put up with the Brexit divide for 4 years, is Covid going to replace it?

It would certainly be interesting to have a time machine and see the living conditions of today's 10-20 year olds in 50 years time compared with today's 60-70 year olds.
Things like owning property v renting, disposable income etc.
I wonder if the future generations will have things better or if the endless improvement in quality of life is on the slide now.

Covid is certainly polarizing opinions. On the one hand, we have oldies (75) like my father is vehemently opposed to hiding away or 'stealing' young folks livelihoods/futures - Whenever we talk, he gets on his soap box about how selfish the OLDIES are...
I'm paraphrasing here but he essentially says " ffs, we've had the best parts of our lives - it doesn't matter if we die tomorrow - in fact it would be a good thing in many cases... it's not fair on the younger folks to 'steal' the best part of their lives, just so a few of us can live a bit longer - I'll take my chances and if I snuff it then so be it but I'll happily do that to give my grandkids a better LIFE "
Then you have the other side of the oldies - some whom up until this point in their lives have faced (and often overcome) much bigger threats, whose family / media hysteria , have brainwashed them into being scared stiff and demonizing the young - accusing them of being selfish for wanting to LIVE a life THEY have already lived. Often attempting a comparison to world wars along the lines of "our parents were asked to go and fight - you just have to sit on a sofa watching netflix"... Which of course is not an 'apples for apples comparison ' despite what they may protest.
The government- OURS/ ANYS don't really give a flying fart... why should they? they are only here for a short period of time and have to try and make the best of a bad run - it's a lose lose whatever... PRINT a load of money to aid recovery and make the young folks pay for it, or accept, the human race isn't supreme/deserving of perpetual life and accept folks will die. The planet is after all, a finite resource... and at some point 'everything will be used up'...
I don't have the answer any more than anyone else does... we can only "SEE" from our own perspectives - THAT said, it doesn't mean I don't respect BOTH sides ... on occasions I may not agree with either but I still respect folks views/opinions... if they are not the same as mine (which are fluid btw) that doesn't mean I see them as the enemy*

My parents lived with their parents when they first married (1948) and eventually managed to move into rented accommodation on their own.
Buying a home was an unfulfilled dream for the majority back then.
The expectation of buying a home for the majority is a post 1960's 'fashion' .
Perhaps we all have to revert to being a little less 'entitled'.

The division was already present before covid, social media was rife with ageism, being called a boomer because you were older and had a different opinion than a younger person was all the trend last year.
Sometimes I feel the world would be a better place without facebook/twitter and such like, can be a really toxic place at times, more so in the football circles.

What people in 50 years time? whilst I might live to be old I dont rate the chances of my children or grandchildren at all! But if covid keeps on morphing into something slightly different and 80% of the population is wiped out. the human race might have a chance of surviving

Time to go play in my garage I think. Thanks for the inspiration.

Who knows, maybe both? Let's face it, human population growth is probably the biggest threat to us of all in this life. It would be good if we end up with some kind of balance. Logically if reproduction was halted for about 40 years we'd end up with hardly any humans on this planet after most of us have seen out our natural lives. Whether us deciding to do that is morally acceptable, is a very different question. Perhaps this virus is making that call for us?

I think ageism has always been a division, at least in my lifetime. Perhaps the only difference now is that soshalmedya brings the opposing factions face to face for wars of words, whereas before it was just stuff muttered in private.

My brain tried to read the word sohsalmedya as some kind of Greek. Must have read to many of your previous posts. Actually thought of looking up it’s meaning. I’m off into my garage.
