From CRT.
"Never pour urine into the canal nor at other random locations along the canal – it may contain undigested medicines such as antibiotics!"
Interesting approach that they mention the antibiotics. I would have used the "it encourages rapid weed growth" argument as more accessible to boaters.
Why are antibiotics in canal water a problem anyway and is it ok to chuck piss in the cut if you are not on any antibiotics or otherwise under the doctor?
Not wishing to come across as rude but it seems like yet more dumbing down.
Maybe they should have mentioned the covidisation of canal water and the untold damage to anglers who I've run out of ideas.

What's so special about canals and antibiotics? Every other waterway is full of it, so is the sea. Will penicillin rid us of medium sized vermin? Spread it on your windows with a bit of gravy.

So interesting that the request is not to empty containers of urine in "random locations".
Presumably if you have a prearranged ie non-random urine emptying programme, perhaps app supported, you would be ok.
If you could later prove that you had planned to empty your urine adjacent to bridge 143 at 1800hrs on Thursday the 23rd of February then it would not be a random location.
I think it's a bit unwise to assume people on boats with "dry toilets" are disorganised. I would wager that a lot of these 'dry toilet' users have quite complex planning when it comes to emptying the urine from the dry toilet.
Why it is called a dry toilet when there is box of piss I don't quite understand but there we arrr.

Would it be "random" if, when it's tipped in the cut, it's then marked with a float, perhaps a whiff whaff ball?

So just to add, this was written in a boaters edition by CRT a few years ago.
"Do remember though, if you can’t keep it stored until it’s ready to use, it will still need to be disposed at an Elsan/sanitary station – if not properly composted it may still contain dangerous bacteria such as E Coli. Liquids go into the Elsan unit and solids should be bagged in a nappy bag and placed in the domestic waste bins. Please don’t dump liquid and solid waste on the towpath or into the water, knowing that it hasn’t composted properly."
Wonder what changed their mind. Where do they suggest dog waste or nappy should go?

Maybe biffa in their infinite wisdom are planning a strategy where they will provide dry toilet waste disposal, to include the urine, but there will be a charrrge for it.
Couple of pounds per kilo or something like that.
There will be an option to "take the piss" thereby reducing the fees however you will need to provide logging data to crt to prove that the urine was disposed of at pre-arranged rather than random locations.
