In the last couple of weeks I've become aware of two live aboards who have changed their on board toileting arrangements from dry toilet to cassette, as a consequence of C&RT 's apparent volte-face on bagging and binning waste. I wondered if any dry toilet users here were considering the same ? I know peterboat and kris actually compost but not sure how many others have dry toilets. Rog

Since you ask- and at the risk of generating smartarse responses- I will make a reply.
My plan, like Kris, is to get one of those 'hotbox' rapid-composting bins that he mentioned. They do a small model that will fit in my cratch. By the time the waste is removed from the bottom of that, it will be quite safe and suitable for use as compost. Hopefully by the end of the year CRT will start adding compost bins to their refuse points.
I'm just not using a cassette toilet, and having to find an elsan every 3 or 4 days. If there is still a problem using separating toilets, I'll have a pumpout installed.

I understand your thinking @tonyc and had no intention of making smart arse comments ... just curious.
I was pondering a Simploo dry toilet last year, but (perhaps fortunately as it transpires) after a deal of research I went with a Thetford and two cassettes.
This gives us upto eight days to locate an Elsan, but invariably we pass one every few days (whether marina or public).
I was surprised that some folks, having spent money on dry loos, have now reverted back.

I see why the stand-up career bombed !
Have you run out of folks to insult on your own thread and now have to prowl the forum looking for opportunities to pick a fight ?

Rog I really don't have a problem with pump out, stopped using any chemicals five years ago, get very little if any pong, maybe if its near full in summer and you rock the boat you get a whiff out the vent, but I just cant imagine storing dry poo on my boat for periods, or tipping my poo out into an elsan. Long live the Pump out!!

I think this totally unnecessary belligerent and confrontational style is at the heart of a lot of Tony Dunkley's problems. It's quite well known that small dogs tend to be more aggressive than larger dogs , in humans this phenomenon is known as "little bald man syndrome" and this, in my opinion, is what has caused all of his issues. In all of his dealings with CRT, Tony Dunkley's primary aim seems to be to establish who is "Top Dog" and even as his boat disappeared into the great blue yonder he didn't seem to understand that it wasn't him.

To be fair I think TD was trying to be humerous, if with a little barb ... he's just perhaps out of practice.
I prefer his dodgy comedy to his anger and bile.

I think Tony has a point on the other channel the comments are that elsan points are going, pump outs are the most unreliable thing ever [in my experience] so composting is a good idea and with luck CRT will put in composting bins. Just think CRT could go the composting way and dump the rest
