It's got a serious lump of an outboard motor in the front well ! It has no engine from memory, that's how they move it. Anyway, might be nothing to do with that boat. All speculation at the minute. that's right, outboard powered. Is or was Eastern European Lady a member here?

It was evidently one of the data collectors. I’m not posting his name as it’s not been made public yet.

I have often felt like committing murder on the GU too, the closer to London the more the desire occupies my thoughts.
Just another symptom of our stressed lives I suppose.
I was once close to being murdered myself on the South Oxford. Managed to avoid it, obviously.

I have to say that FOR ONCE - the wording in the Statement Yesterday from Richard Parry read as heartfelt and sincere.
I know it's 'only words' but for an organization that get so much wrong - so much of the time, when it counts (as on this occasion) someone with half a brain, compassion, sincerity and better spelling than usual, has done a very good job.
Of course on twatter, the general consensus seems to be we shouldn't be judging the perpetrator without a full trial... jumping on the 'mental health' bandwagon but that is a matter for judge and jury not public opinion.

In photos put up on canalworld by MJG the other day it shows that the weird boat and associated equipment (outboard motor powerhead) were moved away from the crime scene while the rozzers were there. Presumably this means the boat is not part of the crime scene or related to the suspect.
Just a coincidence it happened to be there.
It's actually a slightly odd situation with the outboard. I don't understand it really they seem to have separated the whole top half from the bottom half and placed it all in the front well. Rather than leaving it on the back of the boat.
Bizarre

These were the images posted by MJG: First one shows outboard powerhead on canal bank then boat moved forwards to another bollard and powerhead located, separately, from the rest of the outboard. Bizarre outboard as well. It's very large and and unwieldy I suppose a diesel. Maybe it's too heavy to move it in one piece but why move it? Suggestions about electric license discount by someone on other channel. Intriguing.

Specialists get very 'precious' about their crime scene being cluttered with irrelevancies ... my guess would be, when the boats were moved forward the outboard was just bunged back on board.
A sad story... the guy seemed a decent family man ... his family and friends will be distraught.
No doubt his family would have breathed a sigh of relief when he retired from 'the job' and got a peaceful role with C&RT.
Very sad.

Yes probably right but there was quite a lot of chatter about the boat which seems to just part of a photo and nothing to do with the incident.
It's still a very bizarre boat though.
I suppose one has to be careful about doing humour.
Maybe watch this instead and have a giggle.

Rather than leaving it on the back of the boat. What I find bizarre is that a 'luxury' boat with a sale price of £127,000 has been designed to have two outboard motors sitting in the cratch - a bit like Buckingham Palace with a plastic bin outside. Perhaps they add to the beauty? It's one outboard motor. The item is too heavy to lift so it is separated into two parts. And the boat is licensed as an electrically propelled vessel which means you have to whip it off fast and disguise it before a copper comes along and books you and you get thrown in the clink. And yes it is "Licensed" as it is on a canal with no PRN. This all reminds me of the Arnis Zalkans thing.

It seems odd that the police (or someone) chose to remove the boat from the crime scene if they had not established that it was unrelated.
It could easily be nothing to do with it and the police knew exactly what had happened.
Towpaths are public areas after all.
