I had a nice little tickle on claiming for PPI, about 2 years ego just over4K, I then got a sniff of the fact that I'd paid too much tax so enlisted a company to get it back for a consideration, this resulted in a cheque for £808 being issued by HMRC. Nice one Phil

now what you need to complete the trio of happiness, is a "Narrowboat Live-aboard Holiday Experience"... it'd be JUST the ticket ;-0)
Congrats on your windfall.

Nice one Phil That's gud Phil...nice when they get to pay back. My brother in law did very well out of PPI payments.. I didn't try as all that stuff, if there was any was in old joint accounts with the ex. I think he may have claimed as one son had been contacted ref all our old addresses at the height of the 'claim frenzy' and knowing his new 'wife'(ex best friend) I wouldn't think any stone left unturned. Its gud when folks get windfalls like this..unexpected. I once got contacted by those tracing relatives from an estate..there were about 20 of us and my share a few hundred. The closer you were related to the deceased the bigger the share. I used the money to book a couple of memorable trips out on my S American adventure.

I recall my dad receiving a letter about the estate of a relative in America that he never realised he had. After completing the claim and paying the 'Notary Public' authorisation fee (£5), he received £4-17-6d.

Had a call from Mum this morning, she thought she would cheer me up, letter from HMRC telling me they owe me £10,103. I wish it had come out of the blue as a surprise but all I could think was 'about effing time...'.

Will you give it to charity? Canal and River Trust is a worthy one. "You can make a donation by calling us on 0303 040 4040. Our phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm." I might consider paying a bit of 'propulsion tax' with a small amount of the money...

I am very fortunate to be in receipt of a pension, and then in addition I work for 12 weeks a year in retail. This process has occasionally caused HMRC some problems, which after 16 years is quite odd. Anyway, the last time I had contact with HMRC they sent me a cheque for about £600 for overpaid tax ... wonderful ... it lasted minutes A month later I had a request (actually a demand) for payment of £600 under paid tax ... some complication with my earnings in retail that had been overlooked and apparently it wasn't THEIR fault The tax man giveth, but taketh away too it seems. I have £400 or £500 that I cannot touch because it is a policy on my life for the benefit of my ex. The problem is that the insurers cannot find my ex and so asked me if I knew her whereabouts, that was a no from me as the last time I saw her was over 40 years ago. The insurers said the only way I can claim the money is by getting her signature, if the can't find her how the hell do they think I can. Search for her on FB using all possible names but all to no avail, cannot find either of her sisters nor her 3 kids. I told the prudential that as they are so strapped they can keep the money because I am not stressing on it. Phil

I get a small pension as a widower, pays for my mooring and quite a few other luxuries/frivolous stuff each year (I allways try to keep the money seperate to help remember the good times, several frivolous trips planned for when I get up north that I've allways thought about doing) - always seems to complicate tax stuff though - never mind the tax always comes back and then gets taken away again...
Only downside to it all is that in the unlikely event I met another woman the payments would stop! That amounts to a lot of money considering my wife died when I was 40 so my first question on any date would be can you afford £xxxx per year for the rest of my life? - don't think it's the best chat up line though...

Ah .... perhaps that goes some way to explaining why you never said "hello" the other day ........! Seriously, hope you enjoy your frivolous trips - and never forget the good times x
