Before lockdown I used to visit sunny scunny every now and again. Lots of very handy small engineering firms with guys who know which way is up plus best Marks and Spencers in the Humber area also some decent pubs/resurants Are you trying to outdo the Fox for spreading fake news ? Sunny Sunny should have good engineering firms👍 Posted it as I couldn't see how it could have happened in Wetherspoon's as surely they would all have stuck to the carpet 😱 You may have noticed I don't like spoons, it's killed to many small independent pubs😒

I've had fish and chips from there before and they were sublime. I generally find with fish and chip shops that the more modest they appear on the outside, the better the product is. I don't know if they will be open tomorrow, what with it being Monday but I really have to get away from this road noise so I'm planning on heading for Bramble Cuttings at first light. You'll be lucky on a Bank Holiday - the Cuttings, not the chippy! Oh ye of little faith!

Some people are just born lucky! (Looks like someone's already nabbed dogless's mooring, too)

Idiots out in force on the ocean today. I was out fishing in my kayak. Large family on a powerboat with twin 200's on the back went past doing at least 30mph, no more than 20ft from me. Had to quickly paddle round to face the waves in order to not get swamped. What is it with some people?

They are just idiots. As you say. And sunshine brings them out.
Its been a scorcher on the Thames and Yes The Idiots did turn up. Not too bad as it is mixed with OK folk so sort of self controlling.
Studies show that there are more idiots by the day so it will get worse before it gets better!

Over 13,000 pubs have closed in the UK since the year 2000, there are approximately 870 Wetherspoons pubs in the UK. Do you imagine the clientele of the former are all crammed into the latter?

Wetherspoons saw a niche in the market and challenged the larger brewers who have done as much as anyone to contribute to the closure of pubs. Ridculously high rents that rose even more when a landlord saw any success, along with restrictive ties put many pubs out of business. I think Wetherspoons in a rough area are as rough as the surrounding pubs, and when you get to the higher end of the market, they hold their own such as Henley, Windsor, Chester and Tewkesbury. In places like Birmingham and Wolverhampton, you get both ends of the spectrum. Wetherspoons have done much to raise the profile of many smaller independent breweries, and whilst you never get haute cuisine, you get a consistently palatable meal at a reasonable price. But then, with their owner being a vociferous Brexiteer, they will never get a fair hearing from the metropolitan elite.

'spoons sort some people but not others.

But then, with their owner being a vociferous Brexiteer, they will never get a fair hearing from the metropolitan elite. How the metropolitan elite feel about Wetherspoons surely has no bearing on the success or failure of the business? I cant imagine anyone from the metropolitan elite would bother visiting a Wetherspoons anyway, so his support for Brexit has not lost him any customers from within that group. But I would agree with the suggestion that it has lost him the sympathy of Remain voters, elite or otherwise. As a Remain voter, I am one of the group who will boycott any business that he owns or benefits from, for the rest of my life. I'm neither metropolitan nor elite, I'm just a rough-arse working class scouser who learned to read. But I know a c**t when I see one.

I'm sure the Remainers will be just as happy to avoid your company as you will be to avoid theirs- so by all means go to Wetherspoons and fill your boots.

You do realise that being a remainer on here is an unforgivable sin... Its not worth getting into the rights and wrongs of it all, or rehashing the arguments, and I wouldn't even dream of getting into all that. Why bother, when almost nobody on either side is ever going to change their minds. But just on the specific point of who your typical Remain voter is, I'm just saying that if I'm anything to go by, they're certainly not any kind of elite.
