Braunston locks are on restrictions π± Passage 8-4 weekdays. No passage at weekends. Not a water issue but yet more broken infrastructure

To be fair, as I understand it, the construction work will be undertaken at weekends when the locks will have to be closed ... but at least navigation is available during the week.
Better than a blanket closure.

I'm just feel sad for all the weekend boatersβΉοΈ
Should have been spotted and sorted before it became a big problem.

Probably best to get Braunston Locks sorted before Quaysider heads over in that direction.....

What's the Nene like to boat on, does it flow fast or slow?
I have often thought about dropping on to it for a few days, but all those bloody locks first put me off.

When it's on normal level it's a wonderful placid thing. When it's on SSA you really want to be tied up somewhere safe on rising moorings.

Was thinking more of a jolly down to Billings and back, could spend a couple of days there. Doubt i would ever go much further than that.

They get more widely spaced as you head downstream, work on every 30 minutes from Northampton steadily rising as you travel. Most are electrically operated and fairly reliable. he manual ones are a PITA these days. Take a #2 Pozi/Philips screwdirver with you, poke it thro one of the holes in the Stainless Steel hand wheel and you have an instant handle. With regards normal summer flows, usually about 0.5mph but can rise to about 1mph before SSA is set in place. Some weirs/sluices are a bit of a bugger at certain locks but most visitors navigate without difficulty.

Jolly and Billing shouldn't go together, get yourself a bit further down and go to White Mills marina, nice Cafe there, some good walks along a very pleasant bit of the Nene valley. You want to aim towards Whiston and Castle Ashby, get some air in your lungs and a pint at the Falcon Here is a good walk for you www.komoot.com/smarttour/1409155

Sorry Gazza, meant the locks on the last bit of the Northampton arm, 17 before you get on the river, plus the 15 from Hawkesbury to Gayton, makes a few days on the Nene hard work.

Billing is to be avoided, if you gave me a free mooring there I would pay for one somewhere else in order not to have to go to Billing
