Readers may wish to note that there doesn't have to be contact for a Common Assault to be committed. As a random example, trying to get in someone's face and trying to get a photo of them might put them in fear of violence being committed against them, which constitutes that offence. However I would say that the volockie storming up to me in a rage because I defied him, is more likely to put someone in fear and alarm than me saying “i want to take an identifying photo of you” and proceeding to do it. Never mind clobbering them with a windlass! Fair point. Probably wouldn't do any harm to note down a dispassionate record from your point of view and keep it for a few months, just in case it goes in an incident book somewhere and gets followed up.

Still waiting for the photos of vlk who did not want his photo taken ... It seems to be the only solution without some sort of ID. It could of course simply have been a bogus vlk or a rogue. Neither of them are likely to cause happiness to rise to explosive levels.

I’ve set it out in an email I sent to CRT W Midlands, FAO the regional manager Adnan Saif. Who, interestingly, has a background in volunteering organisations and absolutely no background in waterways!

I'm late to this party but the v lockies are in danger of doing more harm than good all over the place...
It's not their fault per say. - Take today on the Bosley flight... 1 v lockie who dutifully reported the broken paddle and walked back up the flight to tell folks to stay put (but on bollards not in the locks) whilst the cavalry was called.
FAST forward to it's mended but he's no where to be seen - 2 boats begin to come up the flght (now it's after the last entry time of 1pm) and he forces them (both hire boats) to turn around and go back down... or rather, reverse back down 2 locks cause they'd not get out before he clocked off...
The logical solution would have been to leave the locks off tonight to let ALL the traffic that back logged up/down and have a fresh start tomorrow..
No - give a retired man a padlock, key and a uniform and he wants world domination!

Alternatively, . . carrying a pair of the emasculating cutters that vets use for castrating bullocks could possibly eliminate the need for bolt croppers.

In the heat of the moment a verbal exchange of views can quite easily progress to violence It can be best to 'wind ones neck in', breathe deeply and walk away.... Can be far more satisfying leaving 'ranters' mid rant. I used to confront... however I've realised its best to just walk away Yes sometimes that is the best policy. But sometimes bullying control freaks have to be confronted, otherwise they just carry on with the same behaviour towards others. Obviously I am physically better placed to confront such people than you are.

I have bolt croppers... AND lots of spare padlocks so in theory one could get through, replace the missing link with a padlock thus not alerting anyone's suspicions the next day and instead of frustration and missed deadlines (and by those I pretty much mean having to PRE book to use tunnels/lock flights etc. - i.e. imposed by crt in the first place) harmony and peace would rain on the canal network.
Well it's a theory....
