I agree CRT should pay people not to mice their boats. Most people know not to mice their boats but you do get the occasional dodgy one and they do need paying off. Ssshhhh no one noticed. I smelt a rat when I read your post.

Surely we should expect C&RT to continue to dredge to the historic depth.
If they can simply decide not to bother, doesn't this set a serious precedent for all waterways under their control ?

Mine do that as well. "turn the phone off Papa".
Must be strange being a child these days with all the internet nonsense.

Surely we should expect C&RT to continue to dredge to the historic depth. Why? Do we expect Network Rail to provide coal bunkers and water towers at 50 mile intervals because steam locomotives used to use the track 70 years ago?

There are still water towers but I think they carry their own coal.

That's the most ridiculous analogy I've seen on the Internet! What if they decide to only dredge to 20 " everywhere because modern boats are much shallower than older boats ... what if they decide to just abandon the Caldon ... after all it's not the most popular canal, isn't very long and is a dead end anyway. The system exists for them to maintain ... not cherry pick what they consider is appropriate, surely? Rog

There are still water towers but I think they carry their own coal. Tis true. I once got delayed on a 'High Speed' train from Taunton to London just before reaching Reading for 20 minutes - the reason, there is a Steam Train taking on water ahead of us!

I keep thinking that Jim has no confidence in the Canal and River Trust's facebook page. Understandable if their Twitter page is anything to go by !
