Having looked more closely at the pics and the price, I decided to follow my own advice and buy it. And it's something of a unicorn - late production, seemingly little use in mostly if not wholly fresh water - the chrome is virtually intact which is quite rare. It runs a tad roughly and came with the usual coating of muck so I'll clean the fuel system and liberally spray it with TFR. Cor what a bargain.

all this eulogising about Seagull century Plus motors and the like ........
if you want to get on with life buy an electric outboard. if you want to make a hobby out of having an old motor hanging on the transom of your little dinghy then get a Seagull.
horses for courses as they say ................... #upyourbum

When I was 12 I had a seagull forty featherweight. I noticed at some point that they changed to the more normal looking propellers rather than the thrusty ones and I did want one of those propellers quite a lot.
I don't think they did that prop on the featherweight itself but it seems to promote higher speeds.
As for outboards I am now a dedicated electric user however do keep a Honda 2, a 2 smoke Mariner 4 and a 2 smoke Yamaha Malta available just in case. All for the tiny little pink dinghy. Belt and braces.

Nice. Only seagull prop I have is from a century.
I do have a few propellers near the windows. One of the more humorous lock keepers did like it and understood the reference to disabling other craft.
Take those blighters' propellers away so they can't be so ruddy irritating!
Fortunately Dulcinea has a spare pair of handed props aboard in case a diver goes in for the existing ones.

Yes often described as the best small outboard motor ever produced.
I was given it by a Thames lock keeper as a "it might work" item and it proved to work very nicely.
Sidelined due to my Aquamot electric unit but it is a good item.

If I had a mind to I could sell it tomorrow for double the price, not that I will. It was close to you as well, I think - Stoke on Trent.

Far too busy to go on a 6 hour trip.

Also the original topic was about getting an electric outboard.

I'm still undecided on electric or petrol, far too many decisions. If I go petrol I will probably live to regret it but at least I know its gone to a decent home.
