Does yours have a magneto ignition by any chance? I cant remember. I gave up on it. It lies unloved in the engine room waiting for the honda to pack up before I need to revisit it. I seem to recall it has a wipac ignition, but may be wrong. If the flywheel is exposed then yes, it does. The wipac-equipped items were better in some respects to the earlier Villiers affair, but still rely on contact breakers. You could retro-fit a contactless setup no problem at all if you could be bothered. You would find this would reduce the swear-to-start aspect considerably.

It will mainly be used in Southampton water and along the solent. In calm water.
Nowhere I wouldn't paddle on a yak.
Some small trips up the river Itchen where paddleboarders and canoeists often play.

Does the contactless ignition replace the Villiers points? I have an Atco Impeller in my shed that needs a new coil, needs a round tuit too.

Yes, it can be retro-fitted to almost any model of Seagull. I say 'almost' because there are some very early models I have never seen so I'm hesitant to say 'all'. You do not have one of the models I am uncertain of. But if you do, it's worthless junk and can I come for a visit? I've never seen an Atco Impeller but if it has the exact-same Villiers mag as the Seagull item then I would say the chances are good. I've got some pics in detail of the breakerless setup if you would like to see, but only if you post a pic of the Atco thing. You show me yours and I'll show you mine. You can also replace the knackered items in the original mag with...drum roll...brand-new parts - not old stock but re-manufactured by an expert. The coil and the thing I probably wrongly refer to as the 'points box' will cost you around £120.00 squids. www.villiersparts.co.uk

I acquired a Yam. Malta with a very sun damaged inflatable for a very low price before I left Benfleet. By the look of the insides of the Yam, it had been tested and then stored, it was in as new condition apart from the cover being very sun faded. The inflatable was in worse state the inflatable floor was a dead loss and was replaced with 3" insulation board and much glue was applied to the seams of the boat. That said, it lasted me over three years until I got fed up with gluing it up again. I used to use it with an electric outboard I recovered from a skip diving expedition and for popping down to the pub 1/2 mile away on the A&C it was excellent ...... I was quite happy to leave it any where, it was unlikely to get knicked 'cos it looked scruffy .... and if it was then it wasn't too much loss (the battery was probably worth more than the rest !!!
When I moved up a few mile to Rawcliffe then the trip to Goole (pub) was possible but tedious but with the Malta it buzzed along.
Local runs up to a mile or so in calm conditions .... electric, anything else petrol !!!

Atco boat impeller, as seen on the Orinoco. www.oddjobmotors.net/atcoboatimpeller.htmMine last ran about 40 years ago, on the back of a Canadian canoe.

Oh, and point two - there ain't be too many Seagull lovers in these here parts...

I did say it was nice looking, not nice running Them there brass tanks are tricky chaps to find like that to be sure. But I got a better one already and issa long-range one too. ps there was a pristine tank which had been switched from new for a bigger one and left in a box for years having never been used on ebay a while ago. Someone paid over 200 squid for it.
