Bank Holiday weekend ... then the kids go back to school and as autumn creeps in, part time boaters like me start to disappear back to marinas and moorings and the system quietens down until Easter. Certainly noticed a massive increase in boat traffic this month ... not a problem if you're not on a deadline or rushing (sorry quaysider) I'm looking forward to a final month afloat on quieter canals, until home and work until the new year. I'm guessing full time boaters are looking forward to the system quietening down, and hoping for an 'Indian summer' as an added bonus ? But it's certainly the beginning of the end Rog

I'm looking forward to a reduction in Zombie boats on the Thames.
Big fan of boats in general and especially a lot of different types of boats so the River is definitely the right place but the overuse of ugly GRP layer cake gin palaces with large smoky diesel engines moaning about running too slowly does get boring.
Having said that not half as boring as the upper reaches!
Roll on cooler weather, a bit of wood burning on the fire and less idiots.
It's been a nice summer as has not been too warm which always helps but there will of course be a last ditch attempt by the idiots to spoil it after which it will all calm down and become peaceful and serene and wondrous.
I'm actually looking forward to winter and hoping for some proper flooding so I can row to the car in the dinghy across the field.
That's right up my street !
Looking at the field tonight it is about 4ft above the water. Difficult to believe that it ends up underwater by a foot or more but it did last winter and the one before, albeit for rather a short amount of time.
Of course this takes out boating as an activity option but that's ok as there is always beer drinking, cutting firewood and other important life affirming activities to get on with!

Doing a run down to Hillmorton tomorrow but that will be the last one of 2021. Expecting it to be quite busy. But other than that I'm back into work mode now.

I've now got a rather rushed journey home to Uxbridge in order to be back in time for blacking - hoping for fair winds and little rain.
