Last week there was a lovely old SteilSteven barge in dock for Survey and bottom scrub, Kris would have had an orgasm over the engine ..... a 1930's MAN. It had been fitted by the Germans during the war when it had been comandeered and it's the same as some of those fitted in U-Boats.

The day before Yesterday I was on the work barge "Alpha" when we escorted it up to Goole (the Alpha was bound there anyway)
We had a chase down the river Hull to catch it up as we were also helping with the undocking
and out onto the Humber
passing the sea dredged sand being discharged at Hull docks for the barges to take to Leeds ....... when CRT finally get the canal up and working again
A view of the "Morgenster" doing about 9 knots on the Humber
As long as I can still manage to get days out like this then I'm content

I keep watching My Floating Home, which recently has featured Holland a lot, and have wondered where a boat of that size could be moored permanently to live on in this country.

There are a few spots but there are less and less every year ..... and the nicest are usually either mega bucks, miles from anywhere or long long gone

You could probably moor it in Dunchurch Pools marina on the North Oxford ... it seems open to any size Rog

It is a good question.
Over the last few years everywhere with big moorings has really filled up and it's not cheap !
Example for London Blackwall Basin sometimes have availability and it's about £18k a year for a big mooring.
Even places like Thames and Kennet near Reading is about £10k for a big boat or could be even more. ETA T&K is £415 per metre per annum so that Steilsteven which looks around 25-30m is indeed over ten grand.
I've always been a fan of small as possible space while remaining comfortable so not interested in these large boats but some of them arrr very nice and that one certainly looks pretty cool.
But yes where to moor these things is a big question.
