Remember Bukh, proper marine engines, not glorified vehicle/industrial units. Avoid cam belts, so that's Ford XLD and Lombardini in typical NB sizes Just seen your web page Tony, very useful. cheers

naughtyfox has a little red thing where the engine should be. Good units indeed. Not greedy, a nice sound and high build quality. I'd definitely be happy with a Bukh. Another reliable one is the Sabb. There are a few about. I put a 2G in a 40ft narrow boat in around 2007 which I had for 2 years. It was a great engine. Very nice item I think it's still in the boat. Kubota are remarkably good units. I had a Kubota Marine twin 750cc with a little PRM box on it in the Colvic. Running up and down the Thames all over the place it was totally reliable and clean running. Wonderful little engine. Not sure how old it was but there was a receipt for £1005 for engine and gearbox new so I guess 1980 ish probably. If so that was a really good item to be running that well after nearly 30 years. According to the tales posted here the oil in a buhk needs changing once a day. Perhaps naughtyfox is just a silly buhker tho?

From the standpoint of reliability, longevity, and overall running costs in inland commercial vessels of all sizes and types, from the smallest air and water cooled auxiliaries and propulsion engines producing power outputs up around 20 bhp to the larger propulsion engines producing from around 20 bhp up to around 150 bhp or more Lister are, or rather were, in much the same class as Gardner, Kelvin, National and RN. For inland pleasure craft use these days there are many preferable alternatives in the shape of marinized Japanese made automotive or industrial diesel engines . . . much less noisy, and just as economical, reliable and long lived. If you find a boat that you like, but you're put off it because it happens to have a Lister in it, . . use the engine as a bargaining chip to get enough knocked off the asking price to re-engine it. The Lister engine will discourage other prospective buyers, and it will be almost worthless, . . £200 - £300 at the most, . . even in good running order.

Just email for the correct one.

Never did my DV36 that frequently, about every 200 to 300 hours.

If that is directed to me then no, it was a 1498cc three cylinder that has a similar output to a 1.5 but I got the impression of better torque at lower revs.

naughtyfox has the single cylinder version and changes the oil more often than most people change their underwear. We rib him for this. Not sure but I think it was TW who suggested incredibly regular oil changes. Some people take things too literally.
