I found this quite interesting www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-58384457Obviously we are talking China and yes it is sensible to limit what children do on the internet I am the first to agree with this but still. Spiritual opium? I never got any enjoyment from doing video games as a youth. Seemed a bit boring but it is an incredibly large industry. Obviously these days there is the advertising overlay which complicates it. I agree with China in this case.

Well it's a good job I'm old because both Chris and I play a game called Guns of Boom, I reached top level 50 earlier this year and Chris signed up about that time and has attained level 46 so is snapping at my heels. We get a lot of pleasure from running around blasting all and sundry with GUNS. now Chris is sufficiently advanced we can play together in the same battles. Likewise we can play with our online mates. Reckon it keeps us agile minded.

My younger daughter who is now 9 and almost 25 got quite into my wheelhouse games. Quite often when it's just me I discuss over the radio telephone about boats which need sinking or clearing and are there any survivors. We have torpedo warm-up switches and soon to install some MRL systems.
She was getting to the stage of requesting close air support over the radio this morning until she heard from the watch that there was a 5 year old child survivor in the water, so the life boats were launched.
I did warn her that pirates sometimes deliberately do this but her humanity shone through.
After which she machine gunned all of the remaining adult pirates then checked over the radiotelephone that we had cleared them.
All role play and I am a wonderful role model.
The radiotelephone in this case is not wired to an electricity supply but it has a proper old fashioned telephone handset which is very tactile.

I was the local Galaxican Invaders champion in my youth, my record longest game was 1 1/4 hours. Nobody bothered putting money down for the next game after 10.00 p.m. if I was playing. Still, video games are boring.

I can't play it on my phone but did show the girls the video of "chainsaw the children" just for educational purposes.
There are much worse blood and gore games than this one.
I'm actually quite annoyed that I can't play it on the phone.
Years ago I played it in a computer but kept running out of petrol.

my middle son has always spent hours n hours on on line games In his teen years they took over his life Now, in his 30's he still plays but on a more rational level.... he's introduced his son to them which does concern me because of how son was in his youth. There are, needless to say NO online games allowed here Youngest also plays on line games but dunno what.
If they are part of life as a hobby and the p[layer can detach then they are ok..IMO... If they become 'real life' then they are a concern. I think I've maybe played the odd one..Prince of Persia....way back in the day but got fed up very quickly Little sis plays something but dunno what as I have never really engaged with them Still I have a month ahead of limited activities in the great outdoors so I may just investigate some.. don't fancy the killing ones

Never played online, or indeed any kind of computer games. This is the only virtual reality I visit ... oh, here and the weather forecast ... that's some kind of fantasy world Rog

Have always gamed, since a kid on my dads pinballs, aracade cabs, Atari, Spectrum, C+4..
Now i have pc, VR, xbox 360, xbob one, Wii, built my own retro gaming cabinet that plays all the retro arcade stuff as well as all the old console games.
Has never overtook anything else in my life though, its a passion/hobby just like other people have hobbies and spend good chunk of time/money on, i enjoy it now just as much as i did 25 years ago, but i dont let it take up all my time.
