I do not see either Tony or Foxy as head of hierarchy here..in fact Foxy is blocked for now. There are some posters whose posts I regard as worth reading and thinking about and its neither of them Surely 'hierarchy' depends on perspectives and we all respond in different ways. There are some on here I would not want to upset with thoughtless comments .. I respect their opinions. There are some on here I'd like to meet..think we'd get on..would love a girly get together with the ladies here.

Post #1 asks -- is there a forum hierarchy ? -- well, no, of course not, . . although there is a small number of very regular contributors -- that's 'very regular' in the sense of verbal bowel movements -- who clearly aspire to becoming founding members of one ! I find your posts quite laxative.

I think he was suggesting some posters need to prune their input.

I used to have a lot of giggles insulting another member on here who I was never going to meet in real life. It's a very funny phenomenon, tomsk was onto this from the start. All rather silly but amusing for those who wish to be amused by this sort of silliness. I don't understand how insults can work on forums. It just can't be effective. Ok so drilling into people's personal lives and applying targeted insults can have negative effects but just throwing insults about in a non targeted way can only be funny. Most people don't put much personal stuff online anyway and if they do it is generally 85% made up on the spot. ETA I did find the Jenlyn problem slightly disturbing as he had "cracked" my obvious hard drugs habit but other than that never really found insults a problem. Sometimes it is incredibly funny and as my younger daughter told me recently, in her singing voice, "we all need somebody, to call a cunt". She is so right.

I personally believe that the "c word" has nothing to do with its recognised English meaning. Ok so most people in the world respect English and understand it, which is good, but there are places where it does not apply.
I believe the word is linguistically effective. Good initial opening and short to the point delivery followed by a secure and meaningful ending.
Technically it is the perfect word to sort the problem. The fact it is a rude and derogatory word in our language is irrelevant.
I'm pretty sure you could find some random person in outer Mongolia who had never even owned a cell phone or used a jet aircraft or bought products on Amazon before and if you looked them in the eye and said "You are a cunt" they would understand this just on a linguistic level, regardless of the meaning of the word which they would have no idea about on account of having no internet access.

Sometimes it's not the word. People sometimes just like to hear what people think of them, and will appreciate your honesty. For example: you could approach an Indonesian girl and say 'you are a cunt'. Equally, you could say 'you are a twat/ fat/ ugly/ a whore' In all cases the most likely answer is 'Yes mister, will you take me shopping?'

An interesting topic and nice to see everyone getting involved and it all staying amicable.
There is something in the social side, bit that would just be people we like, I also accept that some people know quite a lot and respect what they have to say.
Not sure I think there is a leader or a top gang, even though many of us have been here from the start and some of those people spoke to each other many years before over there, that group has never been exclusive and a lot of new comers fit right in.

The linguistic argument falls down where a similar sounding word is substituted... "you are a coat" has the same sounds but without the historic meaning and social consequences it just becomes funny nonsense.
It is only a word ... it can't hurt anyone.
However that said, if one uses it knowing that some really dislike and resent it's use, isn't that simply impolite and disrespectful ?
As to insults ... it can only be insulting if one chooses to be insulted ... however the intention of the insult hurler can cause upset I suppose.
And there is an imbalance here too ... some of us readily and openly identify ourselves ... others very much remain anonymous, so it is possible for someone to take advantage of that knowledge by targeted verbal attacks.
Fortunately being a retired secret international assassin for hire, I am in a position to deal with such attacks if raised.

Rog ... for obvious/self-preservation reasons, often as not.... which is why I failed to rise when you used my given/personal/non-forum name a while back. I was sorry you felt the need to "expose" that, Rog/ dogless . I believe it was probably totally unintentional but, like the lovely IWA contingent who insisted on taking my photo when I helped them down a couple of locks, I would respectfully ask .... ... that was shared in a PERSONAL interaction.
