It seems that the outcome of crt putting the “safety zone.” On the river Lea on hold. Is that district enforcement are going to be doing the towpath side enforcement. Up until now they have only potentially been involved with waterside moorings the quasi separate body that rents crts on line moorings. I see this development as a big step towards privatising of all the enforcement process. Watch out here come parking meters to a canal near you.

The ridiculous thing is, none of the organisations will do anything about it, other than puff wind, or in NABOs case, send silly letters and attempt to convince everyone that (can’t run a tap) crt listens to anything they say. Yet again it will be down to NBTA to make a stand, whilst a small minority of dickheads try to undermine them.

That’s about the state of it. The NBTA have done brilliantly with getting the removal of 550 moorings by catt in the name of “safety.” Put on hold for now. But this preposed increasing of district enforcements scope is an underhand tactic by cart and should be fully opposed by all boaters.

Yes NBTA have in theory done boaters a service but when you think about it all the noise they make about it can actually just end up with everything getting tightened up.
For some reason it reminds me of the squatting thing. I remember visiting a squat in Bishop Avenue in a nice house very expensive place near Hampstead about ten years ago.
They were doing loud music and throwing rubbish around.
Seemed to me like a dodgy approach. Then voilà squatting residential gets criminalised.
Why do I think this is where NBTA are pushing itinerant boat dwelling?
If everyone just got on with it and made no noise, let the rower twats have their bit of water then perhaps there would be a future.
But no. They can't do this because they have too many so called rights.
Rights which by their own behaviour they will rapidly be shown do not in fact exist.
Oh well c'est la vie !

Andrew your anti nbta views and the way you associate them with squatting are well known. You’ve voiced them many times. But what about the issue I’m raising of district enforcement taking over towpath enforcement? I know it doesn’t effect you any more as you boat mainly on the Thames now. But do you really want to see the waterways go that way. Ps It’s not really correct to blame the nbta for reacting to the navigation authorities anti livaboard boaters actions. The draconian attitude is still entrenched in cart and at least nbta are organising an effective response to that. You can’t blame any organisation other than cart for their attitude towards livaboards

I'm totally against towpath mooring enforcement outside of that provided by law. It's wrong but it will happen. We all know there are major problems in some areas and at the end of the day nobody likes slums. They will get cleared at some stage one way or another. I suppose you can say CRT are against people living on boats on towpaths but I very much doubt they are the only ones Not sure if you have seen the state of the place but it is now incredibly common to see boats with piles of rubbish beside them. The boat leaves the rubbish stays. This is a wider topic than the NBTA, CRT and a bunch of rower twats. It's pikeys on water. I do think NBTA cause problems but to be fair they also help people out so I am not totally anti them. I just think it is important for people who choose to live on the towpath to understand that they do not actually have any rights such as security of tenure or normal residential facilities. Or maybe they do in which case it should be more widely encouraged and bigger bins fitted.

Or maybe they do in which case it should be more widely encouraged and bigger bins fitted. Exactly it’s legally debatable what rights there are or aren’t to live on boats. But the fact is people do. Cart know this and take money from people knowing they live on boats, so I would have thought they have a duty of care? To be fair I don’t know the situation on the waterways in London as I haven’t been there for a long time as I consider the whole of London to be a slum. Ps I have seen an increase in the fuck you attitude of some boaters, but I think this reflects what’s happening in the wider society as a whole. The waterways being a microcosm of the macrocosm.

Well yes the left will become more vocal while the Tory money grubbing scum are arse fucking everyone else it's just a shame if loss of freedom on canals is part of the collateral damage.
Maybe it will go the other way and be a wonderful utopian dream.
Anyway enough of this nonsense.

" The NBTA have done brilliantly" -- have they really, . . so what's happening with this ? : - < www.crowdjustice.com/case/protect-boats-homes/ > . . . apart from something called "Update 9" where, IF you can find it, you can read about what this " coalition of boat dwellers, the National Bargee Travellers Association and other support organisations" has done with the £6,432 that the total raised from donations has been stuck on for the last 3 months ? For anyone who can't find, or who can't be bothered to find, "Update 9", . . the short answer is, . . very little !

More people + more rubbish = more rules. Simple. And inevitable.
