Oh I got wrong end of stick.
I thought this was about rubbish sewage and water. If it's about CRT provided actual toilets and showers then they definitely seem surplus.

irrespective of boats having facilities on board, if CRT fail to provide the facilities for sewage disposal they will simply end up with a far worse problem of pollution, this will reduce the revenue it gets from anglers and also make it very unlikely that they will get assistance from leisure organisations as who wants to walk, canoe, paddle board alongside an open sewer.
I find the reduction in the shoer facilities annoying as with a 50 year old canal cruiser such things as showers were pipe dreams. However I accept the fact that to a large extent the requirement has disappeared.
Rubbish disposal and sewage disposal demands have increased ..... but then so has the revenue from the increased number of boats

Interesting isn't it Telemachus ... I was chatting to Jackie about this, and she was saying the change has made a massive difference to the marina in increasing general sales (diesel, gas, coal and chandlery) and frequency of the need to empty the bins and elsan. I assume the 'arrangement' with C&RT recompensed the marina for extra costs incurred, but there must be additional benefits from increased sales and a significantly raised profile amongst boaters. Rog At some point there will be an increase of shit and rubbish along or in the cut.

Perhaps this will help clear away the paddle boarders.
Another side effect could be that local authorities start noticing and decide to do something about the slums.
You can't have people throwing shit into a pound in a park. Visitors will get upset.n The cut is a linear pond with visitor numbers supposedly increasing.

why do people keep perpetuating the myth that cart are poor? They are not poor, they have a massive turnover. If they choose to they could have kept a reasonable maintenance level and facilities. They might have to loose some off the high paid management to do it. Now I wonder why they don’t do it? If you think getting rid of a few managers will sort money shortages you are wrong! On the tother side they were discussing putting up license fees to 5k! Surprisingly people were agreeing with it, of course if the Defra grant is cut it might come to very large rises in the license fee, so maybe just water and bins is better than 5k a year? CRT wastes millions on outsourcing, monetary gifts to other organisations and sheer ignorance of money management. They have an 850 million pound property portfolio, they are not poor, just extremely bad management. What the coffin dodgers spout on the other channel is irrelevant, given most of the crap written on there is produced whilst sat on a shitter.

And massively fewer liveaboard gits. The increase in liveaboard gits over the last couple of decades has put huge strain on the RSW services. What was primarily a system designed to cope with pleasure boaters out occasionally shitting in buckets then going home has in some areas turned into a full scale domestic waste disposal system. It can't work properly. Not possible. Too much demand. Closing the RSW facilities is perhaps not the best approach but it is a logical approach. The argument that CRT have enough money to provide domestic refuse and sewerage systems surely goes hand in hand with the argument that those choosing to live on boats rather than use them occasionally for leisure purposes should pay more license fee as they use more of the blah blah blah and the blah blah blah. A return to tolls would soon sort it.. But them as don’t move won’t have to pay tolls. (Retires to varnish the wooden spoon)

The idea of tolls is that you pay while you use the waterway. Daily charge makes sense. See what I mean? The ladies and gentlemen who reside in the toll houses and/or boats have a look round and see which boats are on the patch and sort it all out. River Wey is a good example* Not that they do tolls but they also don't do slums which makes for an interesting experience if your main aim is to enjoy the waterway as a leisure user unencumbered by those who don't. * I know the national trust is a scam and full of too much money but they do a good job on the navigations.
