Here we go, it's officially winter, and I had Litre of Grouse delivered by Morrisons, no problem, except the bottle still has a security cap on it! I'm moving boat tomorrow, the help line suggests I can remove it by any means possible as I have paid for it. I'm considering a junior hacksaw, but not convinced it will be too easy. I can't be the first person with this dilemma?

I think they release on contact with a strong magnet, if you've got one.

I can't be the first person with this dilemma? Depends which type it is. We had this all the time at one time with Asda home deliveries. The plastic flip off type can be removed by drilling through the hinge to split it apart remove it and expose the screw off cap. If its the wired type that just wraps around the bottle neck we just left it in place as they dont normally prevent the removal of the screw cap. We then used crack on to the family we had shop lifted them.

It is possible to get them off without.

Those magnets they use are pretty serious neodymium gear most people won't have at home.
Mind you to be fair ever since I first introduced the idea of these magnets being used for getting random shite out of the canal mud in about 2007 they have become remarkably popular and quite a lot of boaters may now possess quite big ones !

He was cool. I did see him at the Henley trad rally once. Introduced myself but he was rather aloof, as expected.
Funny man with boats which always seemed for some unknown reason to fall apart quite badly. Perhaps in part due to choosing to own wooden boats.

He wasn't very old I'd say about 60 now assuming he is still with us. Maybe another mystery like tomsk who also appeared on that thread. I've no idea how old tomsk was he may have been a geriatric and since died but carlt who also set up an account on here was not elderly.

You need a hand grenade 👍 I've had eleven of them out and stopped with the magnet about 10 years ago! I actually think the obit thing and forums is quite intriguing. Other than someone on the forum having personal contact with family members you would never know if someone had died. I suppose in some cases the reach of the dreaded facebook might do it. Strange this internet thing. Very odd.

Insist they send you another bottle as the one they sent is not of merchantable quality.
They won't collect the old one, returns are too much faff. Hold it over a clean container, break the bottle with a hammer then sieve the contents into a new bottle.

You can remove them with a fork/knife, it's not hard to work out how the mechanism works and then help it along.
