There's nothing like talking shit. It is the group speciality on Thunderboat. As for toilets on boats has to be a dry Toilet all the way.

Toilets seem to create animated topic to exchange views about. On my boat had cassette but would have been better with pump out as the cassettes very heavy to lug and there was only me to empty them though others did assist in filling......

A cassette-type loo presents a bit of a conundrum. The consequences of putting off emptying it are dire, but on the other hand too much close attention means you are on toilet duty every two or three days. It seems to work better when it is used primarily by one individual. But I often found myself contemplating the options of taking a dump somewhere other than the boat...maybe for these kinds of reasons a pump-out that can go longer between servicing intervals is preferable. But you will always be aware that there is a big tank of shit much closer than may be desirable and a system failure is a bit grim to contemplate. Personally I'd stick with the Thetford concept.

When I used to travel around the canals with my mum, which we did for a decade, she had a tonne of shit under the bed and I had an elsan bucket (the actual bucket one with a bucket in a frame). I felt better about it all and her boat, having a dump through, smelled worse but at the end of the day it was actually quite a good solution. Of course I can't have anything other than pumpout due to the full time availability of a pump with no fee but it's always a good topic. Food for thought about used food handling options.
