Turns out i have to get the boat from Ashby boats to Boot wharf tomorrow afternoon so they can lift out for survey sometime Wednesday/Thursday.
Issue being i am facing north, next winding hole is Sutton Cheney, about an hour away, so that's two hours to turn then the three hours to Boot wharf, cant get away from work till 12.30, then a half hour drive to boat, so best case get to boot wharf at 6pm, in the ruddy dark.
However, next bridge is also Ashby boat centre, but he has signs up saying no winding, always makes me think why, its a little shit really to ask you don't wind, i mean what's the worse that could happen, i bump the bank!
Would you wind and say screw you?

Ask nicely and explain why? Usually works better than insulting or making rude gestures.

Would you wind and say screw you? Do you mean at the Ashby Canal Centre - the Marina entrance? You could always drive in, ask if the sell something they don’t sell (I don’t think they sell diesel, but you could check) and then when they say “no” you leave - in the opposite direction.

I would turn ... ask if there's someone around (there won't be) but I'd turn . I always take the no winding signs at marinas to mean 'don't come in and turn'. I turn regularly at Braunston marina (locks end) Dunchurch Pools and Brinklow. No harm no foul in my view Rog

I would have thought that being out of the main boating season it would be unlikely that anyone would be bothered anyway.

Then wind I shall..
Or say I need a wee and let Gill do it whilst I hide in the loo.

If you are of the old school "wending ones way" then it should be okay but if you are into clock things then you could get into trouble quite fast. Of course if you are inside the cabin at the time then pronunciation is less critical but it's always worth getting it sorted out in advance in case of unexpected situations.
