Hi, Just a quick question regarding what areas of the canal and river systems that are not under the jurisdiction of CRT. No drama, just curious as we are still very much in the deciding where we would like to be based planning stage.

There are (I think) 20 other navigation authorities, but of the 5000 Km of so of navigable water C&RT controls just over 50%.
The other Authorities all have 'bits and pieces' Like certain Local Councils, The National Trust, The odd Charity etc. The EA would be the next biggest to C&RT, their waters are mainly in the East and the South (the Thames for instance)
If I can find the relevant document I'll try and cut & paste it.
Sorry It will not come out as a 'table' Look for the Navigation Authorities name (ie Basingstoke Canal Authority) then look for a number whish includes KM (ie 51km) so - Basingstoke Canal Authority has responsibility for 51km of water., The EA = 1162km and so on.

Broads Authority, but for gods sake don't take a narrow boat there, you will be liked less than the site crew on CWDF - a bonkers thought but true!
EA as Alan mentioned, Anglia region covers a good area, not fully connected without nipping across the wash at the moment. Plans in place for a fen link from the Nene to Boston but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Thanks Alan lots of information there.. Gazza thanks for that, but I have to ask now...why? Broads boaters hate Narrow Boats more than Wafi's. Mooring space can be very limited, In some places needing to tie stern to, a narrow boat - especially a gert long one is not ideally suited to this!. A rough guess at the most common average boat length on the broads would be 25-35' range, a few over 40 odd feet. Wide Beam and low air draft is a more useful factor to consider. Have a look at the types of boats on Broadland hire fleets, they are the shape they are for a good reason! I can only think of a very few I am aware of having been around Broadland off and on since 1991. Phil may well have a better idea of figures than me. it is about the same attitude Sewer tube owners take towards cruiser owners on the canals these days!
