dogless The single most useful household appliance i have purchased in recent years is my filter coffee machine uk.russellhobbs.com/buckingham-coffee-maker-20680It has a clock and auto function so I can fill it at night with a filter paper, a scoop of coffee grounds, one mugs worth of water - set to come on 5 minutes before I get out of bed and I have a fresh, hot cup of coffee ready to face the day. The same concept wont work with a toaster sadly No, I donβt think you can make coffee in a toaster.

Toasters, filter coffee machines, Sorry, thought Iβd logged into Mumsnet.com for a moment there, FFS! π Labour saving device that leaves more time in me pit ETA, When I was a growing lad and started for 06:00 working at Carlsberg I had a 25 minute drive to get to work, getting up for breakfast early wasn't an option. I used to do some toast, bung it on a plate, make a cup of coffee and take a glass of OJ, no cup holders or lap table in my Capri meant toast on the passenger seat, OJ between my legs closest to me nuts as it was coolest, Coffee next - A Steady drive through town then hit the dual carriage way and slowly scoff me breakfast on the way to work I only have a cup of coffee before work now

Thanks for that - My old Lidl sourced one at work is finally fit for the bin, if I use man maths the Russell hobs could go to work, and the one you listed replace it at home ETA - It's smarter looking bit of kit then the RH one too.

The same concept wont work with a toaster sadly We have a Tassimo which makes great coffee but I'm thinking of switching to a filter machine when it goes belly up. They make it difficult to impossible to re cycle the pods which contain a lot of plastic in relation to what they do. Apparently they shouldnt be put in our recycling. A filter machine is IMHO much better for the environment, that looks like a good option, though I wouldnt need the auto function.

In support of the idea of creating forum content that doesn't incite conflict, I post this minor, unimportant, first world quandary. Most work mornings, I stick a slice of bread in the pop-up electric toaster ... go about getting ready ... then have toast for breakfast. I've been home and working for about nine weeks, and the system's worked, every working day. So why is it this morning, the same toaster has cremated my slice of bread, filling the kitchen with noxious fumes , and providing charcoal rather than toast ! Bizarrely , I put a second slice in ... and that was fine. Electrickery is the devil's work Rog Its because it was cold, the thermal release on the toaster spring took longer to heat up and trip, so it over cooked.

I still have my dads toaster which is tad temperamental.. but not replacing as sometimes it'll brown toast evenly mostly it doesn't. Its a bit ancient as toasters go..

Usual bread (thick, sliced wholegrain) the toaster is kept clean, and no changes were made to the settings. Just a random incineration. Took a while to waft the smoke out of the window. Might just as well have spent the time watching it toast under the grill Fingers crossed for tomorrow ! Rog
