There has been a theory around for a long time that the whole of that area will end up being glass fronted tall buildings. it seems likely.
Urban canyon.
Already happened on Limehouse cut. A concerned local managed to get a conservation order and limit height of buildings then a developer managed to get the conservation area binned.
Camden is horrible. Don't know if anyone is familiar with Camden locks but unless you have been in the last 2 or 3 years you would not recognise it.
Really bad.
Demand was there but one wonders with the morOnic and the meDia cOntrol viruses more people working from home perhaps there will be a collapse in property desirability.
The demand seems to be endless. Maybe it is.
One of the particularly nasty negatives is that you get horrible wind sheer from tall buildings which can make the surface of the canal unpleasant.
Of course boats fucking up the approach to a lock can be a good spectacle for people residing in the flats !
Johnson's lock near Mile end has some relatively modern flats beside it and sometimes the wind sheer will blow the boat right across on the approach and in the lock.
A few years ago I was going through there and the boat was blown so badly to the side that a coot who thought it was going to escape the gap ended up with its guts coming out of it when it burst.
I did wonder why the boat hit the side hard but made no noise...
It's bound to happen and being fair the canal is just land which someone has put water on so the most sensible option for an inner city area would be to just fill it in, move on and get some housing built.
