I am never sure with the BBC whether they are reporting new or old news;
There do seem to have been tests carried out today.

thank you Allan ..... seems CRT put a higher premium on preventing deaths in an overstocked fish population to child illness caused by air pollution in cities

The truth is crt never wanted the trade to start on the aire and Calder. They’ve been obstructive from the start. They don’t like the maintenance involved or the extra man hours on the locks. So it looks like this is a convient excuse for them.

The truth behind all this nonsense is to be found a few hundred yards to the East of Ferrybridge Flood Lock, along the banks of the Aire to the West of Ferrybridge, and in BWB's and C&RT's long standing omission to dredge out the years of accumulated silt in the area of the feeder sluice that supplies the canal section from Ferrybridge to Whitley with river water when the Flood Lock is 'on'. There wasn't anything like enough depth for a loaded barge just to the East of Ferrybridge Flood Lock back in 2013 when the Trent sand and gravel traffic from new Besthorpe finished in July that year. Every loaded barge had to plough through the black stinking muck - mainly from colliery waste tips alongside the river, plus some from the stream that runs into the canal nearby there. The last token attempt to clean out this bit of canal was some twenty to twenty five years ago - and the toxic muck is still there, . . and once again getting really well stirred up by every passing loaded barge. That's what's killing the fish, Parry, . . you complete arsehole !

and apart from the last three words, that ties in with what I have been hearing from retired bargemen

It seems that CRT continue to look for ways of killing off these businesses;
