I’ve heard recently that aquavista have bought castle marina in the centre of Nottingham. The previous owners had somehow gained the right to rent out the moorings on the towpath in front of the marina. I’m just wondering if the previous owner would be able to sell on this right to someone else. I’m presuming that crt aren’t allowed to sell the towpath.

Aquavista was BWML which was a wholly owned subsidiary of CRT.
Seems likely things can be done about privatising towpath moorings in certain situations.
If it works for the majority of users and nobody gets too loud about it all then it's probably not that important how it was achieved.

I think you might be wrong aquavista bought bwml from crt and are no longer anything to do with them. Castle marina was owned by another company who have now sold it to aquavista. I was wondering if the previous owners would have the right to sell on their dodgy deal to charge for mooring on the towpath outside of their property. I suppose a freedom of information request might do the job.

Of course the latest deal is between two private companies, so doesn’t come under foi.

Land registry £3 map search would reveal ownership of the towpath and if it's CRT then maybe FOI would work?

Land registry £3 map search would reveal ownership of the towpath and if it's CRT then maybe FOI would work? Just give crt the what3words ref for the start and finish of the moorings, that will enable them to find it if they don't know. w3w app has a map. Still reckon they'll wriggle though.

The obvious solution here is to go and ask the new owners and if they try giving an evasive answer to rip their hearts out and eat them in front of them.

Castlemarinas owned 11 marinas around the country and aquavista owns the 9 that where bwml. So if aquavista have bought castlemarinas they now own 20 marinas. Monopoly anyone?

Old news since December 2020, which is when Castle moorers were told of the take over.
