There's been a discussion on the other channel about boat security, a hidden safe was mentioned. Beware, they are so easy to crack, 2 minutes! I found one in a pile of rubbish on the allotment we have taken on, it rattled, I was curious. A neighbour, who went to the same skule as Mr Stabby, then later to the adult college of the same ilk, found me poking and prying, showed how it's done in 2 minutes. No gold bars, the rattle was the batteries from the keypad. So, if you've got one, put cheap tat in there and hide your gold in the garden. The neighbour has mellowed and reformed with age, no worries there.

It's the easiest thing in the world to pick a pin tumbler cylinder lock such as a Yale lock, or 90% of padlocks. I could pick any Yale lock in around 10-15 seconds. I've never seen a CRT lock that I couldn't get open in seconds. Most of the time you don't even have to pick them, you can rake them open.
It's virtually unheard of for thieves to pick locks though, brute force is the normal modus operandi.

Brute force was used, a short sharp shock in the right place with a chisel and Warrington pattern persuader.

As a sport though, the whole point of lock picking is non-destructive entry using feel and sound only and to open a lock in such a way that you could close it again afterwards and nobody would ever know you had been there.

Watched a reality tv show involving bidding on abandoned storage lockers. One old hand, on finding such a safe, just threw it at a concrete floor. Job done.

American reality shows are quite astoundingly and obviously faked but a few instances manage to sneak in.

When I was a kid I used to think that when a motorbike goes on the "wall of death" the end result is that the rider dies.
It was very difficult to work out why people would sacrifice themselves just for a few minutes of entertainment.
Obviously faked.
