Anyway just to mention that I think RLWP was caught up in something he didn't want to be in. I notice he hasn't posted on CWDF for a while, think he is boycotting it for bringing his name into disrepute (I know how he feels!). Ditto Sue. I think you are probably right there Nick (at least I hope so, I liked him and Sue from a couple of meetings and had them pegged as decent types) On another note I see one of our resident CWF trolls has come out of the woodwork to spill some more bile ....... it is so nice not seeing what crap she comes out with

(apart from the fact he still owes me a pint! from our last meeting)

I have to say, I've met Richard and Sue. I found them really nice people. So I was surprised with Richards involvement with "the list" Martin just let the pint he owes you go.

I'll try and put mine in cronological order.
1) I personally got fed up with reading about immigration etc around the time that WANTED & COTSWOLDSMAN were doing stuff in Calais. Having worked for the Border Force in Calais (also atthe time they were there) i could not agree with what they were doing. HOWEVER, despite not agreeing, i respected them for doing so and never voiced my opinion. Immigration then became a very hot topic and started spilling over everywhere with some members being very vocal with their opinions. I didn't get involved as i had no real opinions either way, but i became annoyed that many on the forum decided to start 'playing the man' rather than the topic and offer alternative views, and those that couldn't or didn't want to should have just self moderated and clicked onto the next topic, as i would do. THIS IS WHERE THE PROBLEMS STARTED IMO...
2) Those that were unable to self moderate and those unable to appreciate that other people are not always wrong just because they have different beliefs, started to call for drastic action. A sledgehammer to crack a nut. What should have happened is a new set of rules be drafted up. Some new moderators appointed, perhap by nominations and voting, and then slowly the new rules should have been implemented. 3 strikes and out should have been adopted. A warning, a 2 week ban and a permanent ban. I actually think that that would have resulted in a large amount of people who are banned now, still have gotten banned. But it would have been done fairly and gradually and given each individual a chance. It also wouldn't have ended up with the mass of ill feeling that the massed banning has caused.
3) Brexit. Like has happened with many friendship, relationships and even families, i think the vote on leaving Europe has driven a big nail into the CWDF coffin. Well not the vote itself, but again the inability of some to appreciate that other people had opinions different to their own, and that they weren't wrong just because of this. The amount of personal attacks i saw on the forum during this time that went unchallenged and unmoderated just because they were dealt by somebody whose political opinions were aligned with the forum owners was saddening.
4) As a result of #3 i think Polotics & Religious discussion was banned and the Current affairs section was removed. That was another poor decision, taken i believe because of the threats of the veciferous few, mainly those involved in the Facebook 'Bangate' discussion. What should have happened is that the Current Affairs section remained and that some modifications made to the forum software to enable people to choose whether the content appeared when they clicked 'View New Content'. It should also have been closely moderated by somebody impartial and any personal attacks removed and punished, no matter which 'side' they came from. If that had happened, then I'm not sure Thunderboat would be in existence.
5) Some poor choices were made in the appointments of moderators. DeanS & GoodGurl were both poor choices, obvios from the outset, my opinion backed up by the fact neither lasted too long in post. I hope neither of them take that personally, because they are both people who's forum content i had followed and respected (and still do) long before their appointment to the site staff. I also believe they volunteered for the good of the forum rather than for personal reasons, and that should be noted. Lady Cassandra and Wrigglefingers were also poor decisions. LC i genuinely had never heard of, never noticed on a thread and therefore concluded that there was an ulterior motive. Wrigglefingers likewise and the starting of the Brexit thread was probably the single most bad decision taken on the forum in the last 12 months and was the beginning of the end for me. Now might be the right time to add that i have a lot of time for FadeToScarlet, Magpie Patrick and Lady Much (more for stuff she does on London Boaters) as moderators.
I guess I've gone very off topic there and listed what i think went wrong with the forum rather than why i left, so...
As a result of the above i became more and more annoyed at what seemed to be happening on CWDF. I joined Thunderboat as a bit of a protest but didn't really like or agree with a lot of the personal attacks i saw on people. I also didn't like the blue skin and found the format on the page hard to get used to. Eventually with constant closing/locking/deleting of threads it became a waste of time posting on there as 24hrs later posts i had spent time and effort constructing would just vanish into thin air. This was the final straw for me.
I made a public comment about the mods, born out of frustration, and was put on Mod Que instantly by Lady Cassandra and spoken to like a child. What i would have expected was a warning and to have been treated like an adult. I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction on controlling what i say, so i logged out there and then and haven't been back since.
I turned to Thunderboat and was delighted to see that the gratuitous personal attacks had stopped in the main and that the forum was a lively and active place. I will now put my efforts into helping this forum go from strength to strength. With the joining of NigelMoore, Tony Dunkley, Gibbo, Chris Pink, Tony Brooks etc i believe Thunderboat is already a viable alternative to CanalWorld.
Congratulations Delta9.

I agree. Personally I try never to take an argument or bad feeling from one thread to another. Anything else smacks of sulking or bearing a grudge, both of which I can't abide. But on CW it invariably happened because of the atmosphere caused by the Modding you're right - there was and still is a poisoned atmosphere there created by fluffies trying to censor anything remotely sarcastic or humorous. Mind you, I have been pushing the envelope occasionally and I haven't had a warning point for months.

I am still a member on there, not thta i read much or join in. not got the time, but since i was to i was xenophobic , My warning This is a formal warning for a xenophobic post in the "Getting rid of Canada Geese" thread on 23rd March 2016 at 8:11pm. The content in question was: Just get some Polish folk to know about them, a dozen will be gone in a week. Just like around where i live, just ell them to leave the swans alone if they come by any. This breaches the forum rules and guidelines. Kind regards, Thing i was not being against the folk that catch and eat wild birds, and it is a true fact that poles do it. Moody cow. Sinc ethen with all the mods changing there attitude, i loose interest. Are you sure it wasn't for semi-literate stupidity? ah, no that's not against the rules. Poles, or any other right thinking European, won't take Canada Geese for the pot because they taste fucking horrible. Swan, on the other hand, are lovely if caught around one year old. swans are the bain of the waterways and should be compulsorily culled and eaten at one year old, leaving one breeding pair per km. they are aggressive, greedy, pushy, and have no charm whatsoever (unlike those quacky little things).

Junior, Could you change your avatar to a nice picture of your boat please? I tried a few months ago and couldn't figure out how. I'll have another go when I'm stress free (next April).

Good post junior I have not posted my situation because things are complicated by a legal action so I have to keep quiet on the subject at the moment.

Great post Junior. Exactly that!
Freedom of thought and expression are exceedingly important
which is why we are all under an obligation to use them wisely.
Well done Delta9 and the pioneers.
