We have a CRT mooring inspection today, we think its going to be a very large rise in moorings costs because that is what has happened in Sheffield Dave is going to fight it but asked us all to clean up to make the place look more presentable. Maybe on reflection he should have asked us to make it look like a scrapyard to get a moorings cut

Its good if the CRT keep their towpaths tidy.
Obviously nobody would object to a pot of nasturtiums but the nature of having things on the land means you just have to say nothing allowed or problems start happening.
Less serious on non public land but still zero tolerance is needed.
Some people (a minority) will significantly degrade the land for some reason. There is a bloke up near Marlow who has two small boats in different locations and both boats are surrounded by shite. Old pallets, blocks of foam random clothing etc. Its really bad and he's only been there a few months. One major problem is other people end up bringing stuff and it turns into a proper dump. Bad news.
Bound to happen if the land owner isn't onto it fast.

eta. Amongst items to be removed 'flowerpots' from the CRT email.

As you usual with crt the enforcement seems to vary area to area.

It has to be a broad brush.

It has to be a broad brush. I could comment on what I think the real reason for the complaints/email is about, but sense tells me to lie low......
Weed gets everywhere but sometimes people think a clean up is required.

They need to come down hard on piss takers, clamp down on rubbish left on moorings and freeloading tosssers like George Ward, Dunkley and their ilk, more use of 6 month licence issuing and then their boats removed immediately if the individuals persist in their piss taking.

The squatters are playing hard ball so the CRT need to raise their game and deal with the problem.
It is not in the interests of other canal users to have this sort of problem. I actually think over time this kind of thing can put canals at risk of closure.
Nobody would miss the K&A though to be fair it is a bit of a pointless one !

In the Ward case the basic fact seems to be that he was organised enough to ask for time in parliamentary select committees. email the court about 'incorrectly served papers' and also go on about the CRT adversely possessing his boat. He is not organised enough to have a licence (which will be paid for by the state if you have recourse to public funds) a BS ticket and insurance for the boat. You don't even have to move around much. The system is, at the moment, very relaxed. Things will change though.
Something doesn't add up there with this behaviour.
He's basically a pawn.
Did the NBTA have much to say about it? I'd have thought this was right up their street.

Did the NBTA have much to say about it? I'd have thought this was right up their street. I don’t think nbta have anything to do with ward. They did initially all those years ago, but I think there was a parting of the ways. Contrey to what you and some on analworld think, nbta do not knowingly support “piss takers.” All of the people who “work,” for nbta are volunteers so don’t want to waste time with people who are swinging the lead. They are there to help genuinely vulnerable boaters who through some sort of misfortune find themselves on the wrong side of crt. I know you won’t believe this, but I personally know lots of vulnerable people they have helped.
