Is this the type where you can remove the whole glass panel and it goes back in with some sort of clamp?
I've seen canal boats where the entire window is missing the glass and I don't think it was due to damage. It is designed to be removed.

No, glass not designed to be removed easily.

Naming canal boat extruded aluminium window frame makers is a bit like naming nuts with soft shells.
There are not all that many.
Caldwells and Channelglaze come to mind. there must be others.

I'm sure once I post pics the mystery will be solved.

Some not very good photos
Seal coming away in corner
Rubber seal holding window in - some are fairly loose some are very tightly held
Pic trying to show frame plus the fact that the d shaped rubber thingy is not continous.
Any thoughts?

[/quote] are the large black rubbers holding the window in place? My windows were made by Worcester Windows, now defunct, but the glass lifts out completely, the bottom edge is held in by a couple of similar large rubbers, a swivelling bolt thing holds the glass against the frame, which has a felt seal. Any water collects in the bottom frame channel and drains away. I have some aluminium sheet windows to replace the glass if I have to leave boat anywhere dodgy.

Could you not just moor it somewhere on the estate and get the gardeners or game keepers to check on it ? "Aluminium sheet windows" seem interesting. One hopes this doesn't go to court or they might be looking at the dictionary definition of "window".

Pike House was one of the old big stone houses around the area, 1600s maybe. Perhaps I could have made my post Pedant proof and called them panels or inserts. Then again pedants will be picky, they'd be better off picking their dags.

beleive they do hold the glass in place. This is what I alluded to earlier when I mentioned those windows which have removable glass but you said it was not those. Maybe they are this type and you didn't know about it.
