The wreck of Titanic lies at nearly 2 & 1/2 miles deep. Is it even possible to rescue something at those depths? We have till about tea-time on Thursday to find out.

My guess is that it has imploded.

Could be. It's almost the max-rated depth.

Maybe they could make a musical about it?

I think calling the submarine 'Titan' may have been a little unwise for a number of reasons.
It could have been better named something like Sub McSubface.

The trouble is, what are they going to rescue it with? I believe they have a standby craft but I doubt it would be able to do much more than take a look, and there's so much debris down there that it could take weeks even to locate it.

I'm not that adventurous but christ on a bike this thing looks like its been cobbles together in Steptoe's yard! not exactly refined is it. They could have at least painted it yellow. You'd have to have a high level of trust to go very far in this thing which weighs ten tonnes.

Apparently the sensors warn of changes in the hull, giving the pilot time to abort the dive. I'm not sure whether they would be much use in the case of sudden and catastrophic hull failure. If you could trust the safety features employed in ocean-going vessels then there wouldn't be a Titanic to explore in the first place.

This bit is quite funny. David Pogue, who went on board, reported that he read a waiver that described the submersible as an "experimental" vessel, "that has not been approved or certified by any regulatory body, and could result in physical injury, disability, emotional trauma or death" So they were warned ! www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-65934887One would hope the responsibilities are properly delegated on board. If anyone starts panicking they need restraining and putting to sleep to save oxygen.

Anyway yes they were warned. And there's no way I would have got into that thing. I did the Great Pyramid tour once; never again.
Apparently there are some things which could get to the sea floor there but they all appear to be military.

I suppose if they get 96 hours out of it that is a better deal than just 8 hours.

At the very least it would need to have a hawser attached to it so that it could be dragged to the surface, there is no chance of the crew being transferred to another vessel.

They would want to be able to rescue submarines. Without the underwater cable network there would be no internet.
