If you are not participating in online banking and such because you feel it is unsafe, I would suggest you acquire a laptop for this purpose only (perhaps also using the .gov websites for car tax and the like). It needn't be a new one, second hand will be fine so long as the HDD is reformatted. Then install a bunch of 'anti' programs and run them before you log on. The chances of anybody intercepting your activities would be vanishingly small. Using a dedicated App is safer than a web browser. Although I think the whole “unsafe” thing is not borne out by reality, it is only borne from ignorance. Most, or probably virtually all banking fraud is carried out by telephone scams. I have the App on my iPhone, thumb print to gain access, it is quick and secure and you can see exactly how rich you are at a moment’s notice. On the rare occasion when some old codger wants to give you one of those antiquated cheque things, you can pay it in with the App too. so a thief just needs to cut your thumb off when they take your iPhone then?

I don’t do online banking and I don’t want to. I go to an atm get the cash I need then spend it. Find a branch if I need to anything more complex. If we all do online then all the branches will disappear along with cash, I think we should use cash and the local branches as much as possible. If money becomes completely digital and online then the humans are fucked as big brother has won. As it is something like only six percent of money is cash as it is. Cash is a con. There are some words on the notes “I promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of five pounds” signed by someone called “Chief Cashier” who presumably is a red indian or something. So he promises to give you five pounds if you give him five pounds. What is the point of that? The real money is digital.

It's about things like being phoned up and scammed into transferring large amounts just because the caller is from your Bank. We all know dogless can be trusting but give the man some credit ........... I wouldn’t give him any credit, he can pay his way just like everyone else.

I think it would wilt a bit and thus not work. But yes. Better than eye retina recognition though.

What happens to your digital money when the unusually strong sun spot activity wipes out the computer networks?

Responding to one of you posts with a little joke is what this forum is about. If you don’t like having your posts replied to, then kindly fuck off and go and talk to your dog. Or call the police and report the stalking.

If we all do online then all the branches will disappear along with cash, I think we should use cash and the local branches as much as possible. That's a bit like saying "We should all use phone boxes instead of mobile phones or all the phone boxes will disappear". I largely use cash but the last time I used a branch to withdraw any was 10 years ago when I bought my car. And even then the woman tried giving me the third degree about what I wanted it for. Luckily I can be very diplomatic when required, so I said "Why don't you fuck off and mind your own business?" in a far more diplomatic way than that. I'm with Nationwide, they are ok, I do the online banking thing and it works for me. Like, when Mark on Callisto fills up the Potato with diesel and I'm at work, he just leaves the ticket in the gas locker and I dob the moolah over to him when I get home.

Well we all have a choice. For now... I meant 'we all have a choice to go along with a request via a phone'. The generation coming along is very happy to use their phone to pay for groceries in a shop. It's their funeral.

Wow ... I was only asking if anyone had switched banks and had a good or bad experience.
I don't wish to bank online ... I'm not paranoid or frightened, I simply enjoy visiting branches when I need to and dealing directly with a person.
Whilst this option remains available it will be my preference.
Whilst it is reassuring that there is a government backed switch guarantee, I was interested if the practicalities of switching matched the promises.
Thanks anyway.
