For the sake of completeness, we went into Nationwide today and switched each of our personal accounts and our joint account.
The new accounts go live on Friday 24 November.
It was an easy, hassle free process that took about 25 mins.
Having said that, the proof of the pudding ... I'll report on the 25th.

Today is the day !
My bank cards, pin numbers, cheque books and a card reader 'thing' have all arrived and I appear to have all I required, so hopefully behind the scenes my incoming and outgoings are equally under control.
Should get a text shortly to say my old account is no more.
All has been painless and efficient so far 🤞

Ah well ... much as I feared.
Come the switch day (yesterday) and no text message or indeed any communication.
Checked my new account in a cash machine on my way to work, and whilst the pin worked it showed my account at zero.
Finished work at 8pm and checked again ...no change (and no money !)
Up early to be at the new bank at 9am this morning ... turns out some administrative glitch has stopped the switch process.
Got to wait until Tuesday to (hopefully) find out a new switch date.
Good job I went to the bank as no one had contacted me to say there was a problem and fortunately I hadn't cut up my old bank cards so I can carry on until the switch can proceed.
So the 7 day process is looking like about two weeks so far.
We shall see.

Haven't got an account yet, so the app can wait.

And so it goes on ...
The Switch Team have now decided to go ahead, but have randomly picked a date mid direct debits and standing orders (7th Dec) rather than MY new chosen date of 15th.
The bank is trying to alter this, however I received letters from Virgin Money this morning saying the switch is confirmed for the 7th.
Off to the new bank AGAIN to try and clarify.
If my debits and credits survive this prolonged switch intact I'll be amazed.
Such fun !

I keep reading the thread title and thinking it should be about batteries or choosing which side to moor.

I did think about rivers when I first read the thread title, but then I saw it was Rog and realised it couldn’t be about rivers.😀

I'm assured the switch WILL take place on the 15th which is good.
I'm also apparently going to be given £50 by way of an apology for the problems.
Of course knowing my luck my old bank account will shut down on the 7th, and I'll be stuck with no bank until 15th ... we shall see 🤞
At least Jane's switch worked like clockwork so we'll always have hers.

I'll just be glad when it's sorted now ... I can't do anything about online banking until after the switch date.
Hopefully all will be finalised by Christmas and I can step into the 21st century banking world.

Hussar !
Both new accounts now working and my old bank shredded my card when I checked the account had closed.
By Monday I should be able to open up my online banking app. 👍🏻
Taken four weeks to reach this point rather than the seven days, but it's done.

ETA Don't have to wait until Monday ... on the app now ... isn't technology wonderful (when it works 😁)

Glad to hear it's all sorted Rog.Paul changes banks like he changes his undies-often ! Each time,he gets a cash incentive & the best offers for his acccount. Me-I've had my account since 1976 when I opened it in Dudley to pay in my student grant.Don't want to change banks after all these years(47 in September).Daft as it sounds,I'd feel it was unlucky.

All sorted, up and so far working and amazingly they've deposited £200 for each of our accounts, plus £50 for the issues making £650 in total ... quite extraordinary.

Rog Ali changes bank accounts for us fairly often, 2 or 3 times a year on average. Amazes me how much money different banks will throw at you for switching over. They gave us enough this year to pay our CRT license today. Kinda takes the pain away 😊
