I have seen adverts for large Anker power banks which are described as 'solar generators' .
Seems quite a misleading name as it actually stores power rather than generating it, but I wondered if anyone has experience of these sort of things and how useful they are ?
I have a couple of small Anker power banks, which are very handy in the evenings if I need to top up phones or tablets, without using the batteries.
But I think the idea of these large units is to be able to use power tools etc.

They are just batteries with an inverter attached usually.so you have to put the power in some how. I suppose they could be useful if you have excess solar in the day time. But a better option would be to update/upgrade your boats battery bank. Unless you need the power to be portable.

I was thinking that with the spread of inner city 'quiet zones' they may be useful ... but then of course you wouldn't be able to use power tools anyway π
The blurb suggests it can recharge to 80% in 4 hours but I suppose the real value is in how slowly it will discharge.
I have seen vloggers selling these things and highly praising them ... but so would I if the company gave me a free one.
Just wondered if anyone has got one or used one ?

I suppose for a van lifer or someone new to boating it would be a cheapest way of getting a set up. To provide some solar power.

Β£650 seems quite a lot for 40Ah of battery power.

How quickly would power tools (for example a sander) flatten that Telemachus ? I realise it's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question, but ball park ? Rog

Rog The battery is quoted as 512 watt hours. So a 500 watt sander for an hour. Most sanders are probably less than 500 watts so maybe an hour and a half.

I agree with whoever said improve your battery set up. I got a cheap sine wave 1200w inverter for the odd times I need 240v, eg to charge up my ebike.

I recently acquired a cordless ball point pen.
It is quite a nice eBic.

I recently acquired a cordless ball point pen. It is quite a nice eBic. They are all cordless by design. Might be better to say battery powered ball point pen, an eBic. Off to try the improved version on Pedelecs.

I tend to use them for camping, picnics etc. Both are charged by a portable solar panel, and both can be fast charged in an hour on mains.

Theyβll run a small cool box, MacBook, iPad, and wif dongle etc. saves paying Β£20 a night for leccy on a camp site. They are quite handy actually, but pricey.
