Bikes ain't what they used to be.
Yars ago as a teenager I used to ride around on a Raleigh All Steel. Great machine if a little heavy.

Hercules with stirrup brakes for me, until I got a 5speed small frame Harry Hall 531 tube racing bike aged about 13. Did everything one would do with a BMX style bike these days, jumping ramps, rough tracks etc.

Odd coincidence about the 531 frames. i've had several Reynolds 531 bikes including the Raleigh Ozark which was the reason for my last job which was a paper round when I was 14 yars old. Mother offered to pay half if I earned the other half.
Good bike. Also had a Dave Marsh 531 racer (great bike), a Holdsworth 531 racer, a raleigh 531 racer, a Carpenter 531 racer and an obscure French 531 lugless frame racer with lovely pencil stays.
These all got nicked from various boats.
I am not very good about locking things up when they are on my boat.
Even had a Raleigh shopper nicked off the front deck once.
There is a message and it does not involve a big lock.
Also had a 501 framed mountain bike once.

Well, I asked nicely, you didn't move, I rang my bell, you didn't still didn't move over... The entirely upright riding position is rather quaint. I wonder if this is entirely due to perceptions of proper deportment? The stem is sooooo long... I bought a set of sprung forks for my current cycle which came with an oversize stem, the idea is that one cut it to suit whichever frame but I left it and made a spacer from some stainless tubing I had lying around. A bit daft but I like it.

Ladies in the old days used to be a lot better. There was a time when a lady could be almost certain to win a game of chess against a gentleman even if said gentleman was very well equipped to deal with such a mentally arduous task. She's going to win. But that was yars ago!

A bit daft but I like it. Since my argument with a tram line severely spraining my wrist, I fitted sweptback handlebars and a variable angle headstock to give a more upright riding position, taking the weight off my wrists. I've kept it that way. Very comfortable.

The women' waist is about the size of the head - not healthy.
