I'll be gone like a long dog before the licence increases anyway as have found a new way to do things which does not involve having a boat in an inner city ditch full of weed, rubbish and dead cats. The only way is up. I've always thought airships are under-rated.

I think November's inflation figure, which CRT will factor in to next year's licence cost, is likely to be high as increased fuel costs over the last few months kick in.

It was funny the way the CRT said the figures would come in November but someone couldn't resist so they have had to announce it a month early.
Sign if incompetence?

Yes I know that but they originally said they would announce the surcharges after inflation figures were known.

Crt indicated that the inflation rate hikes for standard licence fees would be announced in November. That has nothing whatsoever to do with the recently announced surcharges. I'm amazed by the stupidity surrounding this, but then again, it's emanating mainly from the canal wankers dunce forum.

I've today been threatened with a sanction for only applying for 9 jobs this week. Doesn't overly concern me as I only get £48 a month (due to having a pension), but I still get access to someone who will look over any applications/cover letters/how I fit with the required skills even if I get sanctioned, that means far more to me than some numpty work coach who is only counting job applications.
Bit of a rant to get it off my chest - how dare they say I'm not trying hard enough!

Boat licence fees will need to rise above the baseline inflation rate for each of the next five years. In addition, we are introducing a surcharge for boats that continuously cruise and increasing the surcharges for wide beam boats to reflect the greater utility they receive. The above-inflation increases for all boat licence holders, and the new surcharges, will take effect from 1 April 2024. Details will be announced in November using the latest inflation forecasts. This is the original communication from the CRT, kindly supplied by andyberg in the OP. Read it ? Then read it again. I can add emphasis if it helps. My underlining in case of hard of thinking types.

That is possible. He's put his boat away not realising this weekend is summer time. Having read it again (always good) the CRT announcement said they were using inflation forecasts rather than inflation figures when the surcharges and above inflation increases are announced in November. The above inflation increase is a separate thing it would seem.
