This topic has been on my mind forever.
So I keep seeing disposable vapes everywhere.
Apparently these have 3.7v lithium batteries.
Hmmm. I wonder ... They don't like being over volted.
Wire lithium battery via remote/timer to the main battery,
Place in base of fire and build kindling and coal on top.
Theory:
When the battery is connected to the main 13/15v supply it swells then splits the. the thermal runaway starts.
One would therefore have self sustaining fire probably enough to light the coal.
I can see some experiments on the horizon and a collection of said vapes.
Even without the timer or remote it could be a great way to light a fire.

It sounds alot of trouble to light a fire.

I always have trouble lighting fires. Need accelerants of some sort. These little batteries could be free accelerants.
I also think it is quite nice to engage in thermal runaway in a safe environment.

Try a 9v battery and fine wire wool. I just don’t think it’s a good way to dispose of these vapes.

Might be better than setting a bin lorry on fire.
At least it is a useful outcome. They are going to burn anyway.
I can do it with nichrome wire and matches it just that the battery will provide an after burn effect.

Yes, just don’t breath any fumes.

One would be socially distant at the time.

Well yes but this thread seems to be about the most whackadoodle method of lighting the fire.

The vapes are lying around on the ground.

Well yes but this thread seems to be about the most whackadoodle method of lighting the fire. you don't have to light your fire like this if you don't want to. I will be conducting open air experiments around feed wire diameters.

Just chucked one on the fire, no bangs or anything spectacular, other than it seems to have removed quite a lot of soot from the flu.
