It's funny in a bad way that India can send a rocket to the moon but so many are starving etc. Still, things are hardly much different here. Billions for bombs but not a lot for social housing. The billions for bombs is an interesting one. How might people feel I wonder, if Britain withdrew from this? The bombs aren't for us, they are to give to others, mostly.

Yes I’m aware of the launch today, but the Americans are playing catch up to India? The South Pole is of interest because they believe there is water ice. Unfortunately only a few hundreds sq km of it. So they all want to lay claim to it, as it’s probably the single most important resource on the moon. I don’t think there’s much difference in the way western countries operate as compared to India. Look how many people can’t afford food in this country yet we can spend billions on other things. I think the levels of corruption are about the same. It’s just that In the west it’s hidden where as in India it’s in your face all the time. As a westerner there it was a good idea to have stashed about your person at all times some cash (dollars.) of differing small denominations in different locations. To facilitate paying over zealous police officials on regular occasions. It was said that all the police officers in goa paid thousands of dollars to be transferred to work in goa. Because the earning potential was so good, they definately all had gold watches. I don’t think I met anyone who had stayed for a while that hadn’t paid the police at some stage.

It seems NATO stocks are running low because, as you say, they've all been given away. The Germans reckon on ten years to bring things up to a state of readiness.
I suppose we need them, but it's a bit of a shame that all that money is spent on weapons, isn't it?

The likes of the BBC choose not to give a lot of coverage to news items contrary to the European order. You might have a bit more luck if you choose an alternative broadcaster. I've just done a search on the BBC news website going back to the 1st Jan.
EU farmers march gets 9 stories.
India farmers march gets 9 stories.

India is one country, how many countries did the farmers come from in Europe. I believe the demos in Europe are still on going in some locations. But no stories in the news?

I didn't but I was only there for a fortnight. Pleas stop using question marks at the end of a statement. It bugs the shit out of me.

Alcohol is a strange one in India. Often banned but individual states have autonomy over this. In Kerala it was banned apart from in 5 star hotels. Also 'authorised alcohol shops' where men queued rund the block to guarantee themselves early graves with bottles of rough brandy.
Diu, a small island off the coast of Gujarat was an interesting one. Gujarat was dry apart from tourists, who could apply for a permit but Diu, being a union territory of Delhi had a more relaxed code. Every morning streams of Gujaratis streamed across the road bridge to get hammered on the cheap brandy for sale in the many bars.
Many states had 'permit rooms' which were underground rooms without lighting where the waiter would approach with a menu and a torch.

Also I find the baggage retrieval system at Heathrow to be of much concern.
