The worry is, if all you electrical experts stop posting over there, a lot of questions may go unanswered, unless people can find there way over here. I have been pondering on this myself, One of the problems that comes with being the first port of call for new boaters is that you get all the lazy ones as well .... by that I mean that even when the information is freely available to search out, some still seem unable to follow the instructions to the thread and ask the same damn stupid questions over and over. We obviously have the freedom here to be as acerbic as we wish when presented with a stupid question where the answer is in plain site in a pegged article. On the other hand, as you say, this is probably the best fund of knowledge on technical/legal subjects available, so it would be a shame if newbies were deprived Yes, I am sure you are right. The wealth of historic information must be able to answer 95% of queries, but the same questions seem to appear on a regular basis. A specific thread is obviously required for an individual set of circumstances, which I guess is some, but generic questions must have been answered 100 times over. One query just gone on over there. Help! Is 15.4v a problem? I suspect the answer could be found by searching, but a tailored answer would be much nicer!

True, I think for some of them the main motivation for visiting the forum is because they can't find the answer they want on facebook! A prime example, the couple who's boat went missing and was recovered, did they stick around or come back with some more info about it? AFAIK the guy was a spark, would have been nice if he stayed around and helped out a bit.

There have also been some posts pointing out CWDF is now not the only place to get advice. One ery strongly implied it was not the place to now get electrical advice.

Another way to temporarily disable the alt may be to disconnect/remove the warning light bulb, but some can 'self excite'
